The battle for the Schuylkill League golf team championship is starting to come into focus.
Schuylkill Haven and Nativity wrapped up the two playoff berths from Division II on Monday as the Hurricanes (10-0) clinched the division title with wins over Weatherly and Minersville and Nativity (10-2) secured the second spot with a victory over Mahanoy Area. It is believed to be Nativity’s first-ever Schuylkill League golf playoff berth.
The top two finishers in each division qualify for the team championships.
Blue Mountain and Pottsville are tied atop Division I with 7-1 league marks and can wrap up playoff spots with wins Tuesday. Blue Mountain visits Panther Valley, while Pottsville takes on North Schuylkill. The Eagles and Tide then square off Thursday at the Schuylkill Country Club with the Division I title on the line.
The Schuylkill League Golf Championships will be held Monday, Sept. 16, at Schuylkill Country Club. The boys’ individual, girls’ individual and team championships will all be decided that day.

Girls’ Soccer
Pottsville 4, North Schuylkill 2 — At Fountain Springs, Abbie Davis and Trinity Mendofik each scored twice as the Tide downed the Spartans in a Schuylkill League Division I clash at Ghosh Orthodontics Field at Spartan Stadium.
Mendofik and Davis each tallied goals off assists by Cami Quirin-Morris late in the first half to give Pottsville a 2-0 halftime lead. North Schuylkill rebounded to tie it with two quick goals in the second half as Addie Balicki scored at 47:59 and Addie Urban scored off a corner kick at 49:26.
Davis scored on a penalty kick with 28:14 remaining to put Pottsville (4-2-1, 4-0 D-I) back in front before Mendofik scored with 19:40 left to give the Tide some breathing room.
Aubrey Scanlan made eight saves in the net for Pottsville, while Maddie Moyer stopped seven shots for North Schuylkill (3-2 D-I). Pottsville won JV 8-1.
Blue Mountain 7, Marian 0 — At Hometown, Kyra Moran scored a pair of goals as the Eagles cruised past the Fillies (0-3 D-I) in a Division I contest.
Ella Smith, Kailin Bonner, Ellie Colindres and Addie Warke added goals for Blue Mountain (4-1 D-I), with Alex Warke and Addie Warke each having two assists. The Eagles’ other tally came on an own goal.
Schuylkill Haven 9, Lourdes 0 — At Schuylkill Haven, Kylie Siket tallied three goals and two assists as the Hurricanes (4-0 D-II) rolled past the Red Raiders (1-2 D-II) in a Division II contest at Rotary Field.
Ava Terefencko had two goals and an assist, while Taylor Haag had a goal and three assists for Haven. Cadence Artz, Audrey Hutchinson and Alea Porter also found the back of the net for the Hurricanes, who held Lourdes to no shots on goal.
Minersville 11, Weatherly 1 — At Minersville, Hope Motuk scored two goals and had an assist to pace a balanced attack as the Miners routed the Wreckers (0-3 D-II) in a Division II contest.
Grace Sterner, Bella Rizzardi, Sara McGrath, Payton Frantz, Cambria Govern, Rilynn Brennan, Bella Plesnarski and Jewelisa Perez all scored for Minersville (2-2 D-II), which outshot Weatherly 28-4 and added an own goal. MacKenzie McGill tallied Weatherly’s only goal.
Tamaqua 7, Shenandoah Valley 1 — Kim Rudy recorded a natural hat trick and added an assist — all in the second half — as the Blue Raiders notched their first victory of the season with a Division I win over the host Blue Devils.
Kolbe Robb added two goals and two assist for Tamaqua (1-4 D-I), which scored six times in the second half after leading 1-0 at intermission. Evelyn Leinbach and Sienna Stellfox added goals for the Raiders, while Mia Bamford chipped in with two assists.
Jasmin Olayo tallied the only goal for Shenandoah Valley (0-3 D-I), while Devils’ keeper Siama Cortes had 10 saves.
In other girls’ soccer action Monday, Williams Valley edged Tri-Valley 1-0.
Boys’ Soccer
Jim Thorpe 4, North Schuylkill 1 — At Fountain Springs, Henry Snyder, Conor Holland and Ehren Hassler scored goals in a six-minute span of the second half as the Olympians (3-3) pulled away from the Spartans (2-3) in a non-league contest.
Blaze Flyzik garnered Jim Thorpe’s first goal before the second-half flurry made it 4-0. North Schuylkill’s Fabrizio Manganiello ended the shutout bid with a goal in the 70th minute.
Hassler, Flyzik and Noah Geiser had assists for Jim Thorpe, while Gage Reidler assisted on Manganiello’s goal. Liam Off had five saves in net for the Olympians, while Kaden Onuschak stopped 12 shots for the Spartans.
Shikellamy 8, Williams Valley 0 — Vikings’ goalkeeper Owen Mace was busy, stopping 17 shots as the Braves rolled to a non-league victory over Williams Valley (2-3) in Williamstown.
Girls’ Volleyball
Panther Valley 3, Marian 0 — Morgan Orsulak had 11 kills, 15 assists and six digs as the Panthers swept past the Fillies 25-18, 25-16, 25-16 in a non-league contest.
Natalie Vermillion had 13 kills, 10 digs and two aces for Panther Valley, while Caroline Breslin collected 13 digs. Isabella Horvat had seven kills and 11 digs, Alena Lombardo had seven kills, Kali Grochowski had five kills and 15 digs and Eris Hayes had 21 assists for Marian. Panther Valley won JV 2-0.
Mahanoy Area 3, Schuylkill Haven 0 — Lexi Chilinskas compiled 23 assists and five aces as the Golden Bears downed the Hurricanes 25-13, 25-12, 25-21 in a non-league matchup.
Naomi Kowalick added nine kills and two digs for Mahanoy Area, while Yehilna Reyes had 18 digs and Caylin Blashock tallied four kills and two aces. Jolynn Ross had 10 assists and six digs, Teagan Wehr had two aces and 18 digs and Karlee Feger collected two aces, three kills and five digs for Schuylkill Haven.
Mahanoy Area won JV 2-0.
Lehighton 3, Blue Mountain 0 — At Lehighton, Jaedyn Bartholomew compiled 10 kills and 20 digs as the Eagles dropped a non-league contest to the Indians 25-17, 25-22, 25-20.
Lexi Marshall added five kills and five digs for Blue Mountain, while Bella Grasso had 17 assists and four digs. Lehighton won JV 2-1.
Minersville 3, Tamaqua 0 — At Tamaqua, Hailey Croley had five aces, five kills and three blocks as the Miners swept the Blue Raiders 27-25, 25-16, 25-22 in a non-league match.
Ayla Castle tallied 10 assists and three aces for Minersville, while Camryn Colna had five kills and two aces. Millie Black had nine kills for Tamaqua, while Madison Schock had four kills, six assists, four aces and eight digs. Leah Black added five kills, seven digs and two aces.
Tamaqua won JV 2-1.
