CATASAUQUA — Young teams in any sport have games that are used as building blocks for the future, both good and bad.

Wednesday was one of those building blocks for the Schuylkill Haven girls’ soccer team.

The Hurricanes fell to perennial powerhouse Moravian Academy 6-0 in the District 11 Class A championship game at Catasauqua High School.

The Lions scored four goals in the first six-plus minutes of the game and never looked back, winning their seventh straight district championship.

Angelena Deluhery scored just 1:08 into the game, then added another at the 6:01 mark. Elle Price (3:53) and Elena Reid (4:40) scored in between as Moravian Academy put the Hurricanes in a hole they could never dig out of.

Reid added a second goal at the 38:46 to give Moravian Academy (17-4) a 5-0 halftime lead. A goal by Angie Perrucci with 6:20 remaining set the final score.

Schuylkill Haven (16-4-1), which was missing several key players due to injury, starts six sophomores and two juniors. Haven won the Schuylkill League Division II title but lost to North Schuylkill in the league semifinals.

The Hurricanes will graduate seniors Cadence Artz, Peyton Butz, Nikki Domermuth, Faith Goehring, Alea Porter and Emmie Scherer, who were instrumental in the team’s building process, but the future looks bright for Scott Burcik’s squad.
