When you’re the area’s only unbeaten team entering January, you get to be No. 1.

That’s the case for the Williams Valley girls’ basketball team, which is the top team in the inaugural T102 Sports Now Super 7 Girls’ Basketball Poll that was unveiled Sunday night.

The Vikings are 11-0 heading into a Schuylkill League Division II first-place showdown with Marian on Tuesday in Tower City. The Fillies (11-1), who are No. 2 in the inaugural poll, are coming off an intense non-league victory Friday at Schuylkill Haven.

The Hurricanes (8-2) are No. 3 in the poll, followed by Tamaqua (10-1), North Schuylkill (6-3), Pine Grove (7-4) and Mahanoy Area (5-4).

Expect some major movement this week as all of the top teams face big challenges this week. In addition to the Marian-Williams Valley game, Tuesday’s Schuylkill League slate also features North Schuylkill visiting Schuylkill Haven and Mahanoy Area taking on Lourdes.

Friday, Tamaqua travels to North Schuylkill while Schuylkill Haven treks to Pine Grove.
