HS Softball: Schuylkill Haven knocks off Tri-Valley

SCHUYLKILL HAVEN — Schuylkill Haven delivered big hits in the final two innings to rally past Tri-Valley 6-5 in eight innings Thursday in a Schuylkill League Division II softball game.

The Hurricanes tied the game with three runs in the bottom of the seventh, knotting the score 5-5 on Grace Line’s two-run single.

With two outs in the eighth, Joie Schoffstall, who went 3-for-4, singled. Running on a 3-2 pitch to Kaitlyn Russo, Schoffstall scored the winning run when Russo laced a triple to left field.

Ally Becker went 2-for-4 with a double and three RBIs for the Hurricanes.

For Tri-Valley, Olivia Witmer went 3-for-4 with two doubles and three RBIs.

PINE GROVE — Jamie Dinger and Chelcy Clark combined on a two-hit shutout to lead Pine Grove over Tamaqua in a Division I game.

Dinger pitched 5.2 innings and struck out 14. Clark finished the final 1.1 innings and whiffed three.

Callee Leffler sparked the Cardinals’ offense, going 2-for-3 with a double, a triple, three runs scored and one RBI.

Hannah Aungst went 2-for-4 with a triple, two runs and one RBI, while Madison Shiffer went 2-for-3 with an RBI for Pine Grove.

MINERSVILLE — Eila O’Brien pitched a one-hit shutout and helped herself with two hits and two RBIs as Minersville topped Nativity at Ken Schneck Field.

The win marked the first for first-year Minersville head coach Kate Rittenbaugh.

Sara McGrath went 3-for-3 with a triple, three runs scored and four RBIs for Minersville, while Bella Rizzardi went 2-for-3 with a double, three runs and two RBIs. Rilynn Brennan went 2-for-3 with three runs scored for the Miners.

Eckert struck out four and walked none.

Aubrey Scanlan paced the Crimson Tide offense by going 2-for-2 with four RBIs and two runs scored. Other top hitters for Pottsville included Jes Siminitus, 2-for-3 with a double, two RBIs and one run; Lana Cromyak, 2-for-2 with two runs and two RBIs; and Olivia Wessner, 2-for-3 with a double, two RBIs and one run.

TOWER CITY — Olivia Hand tossed a three-inning no-hitter with seven strikeouts and one walk in Williams Valley’s Division II victory over Shenandoah Valley.

Hand went 2-for-3 with three runs scored and four RBIs. One of her hits was a three-run, inside-the-park home run.

Quin Smeltz went 2-for-2 with four RBIs, including a three-run home run for the Vikings.

Ella Kobularik had three runs and three RBIs; Kayla Hand went 2-for-2 with two runs and two RBIs; and Ally Underkoffler went 2-for-2 with two runs and one RBI.

Morgan O’Brien went 2-for-4 with three RBIs for the Panthers.

Naomi Kowalick and Ella Connolly had two hits and two RBIs apiece for Mahanoy Area.
