POTTSVILLE — There are two coaching vacancies atop Lawton’s Hill.
In an email from Nativity Athletic Director Ruth Weidman, T102 Sports Now has learned that the Hilltoppers boys’ basketball program has split ties with coach Mike Walborn, while the Golden Girls’ basketball program has done the same with coach Scott Forney.
Both Walborn and Forney have been household names around Nativity sports for some time.
Walborn and the Hilltoppers finished 16-11 this past season and qualified for the Schuylkill League Tournament, District 11 Class A Tournament and PIAA Class A Tournament. Walborn was hired as head coach for the 2016-17 season, making the 2024-25 season his ninth season.
Walborn led Nativity to their first ever Schuylkill League Championship in the 2020-21 season. The Hilltoppers rolled that season, first to District 11 Class A title victory, then to PIAA Class 1A State Championship after defeating Berlin Brothersvalley with a score of 51-47.
His counterpart, Forney, was also hired for the girls’ job during the 2016-17 school year. He was an assistant before becoming the head man. Forney guided the Nativity girls’ team to recent District 11 Class A titles during the 2019-20 and 2023-24 seasons.
Weidman’s email further explained that Nativity is beginning to look for its next basketball coaches, see details on that below. Check back for more details on the departures of the former Nativity coaches in the future.
