HS Baseball Roundup: Blue Raiders, Colts, Vikings pick up wins in Schuylkill League action

FOUNTAIN SPRINGS — Strong pitching and a collective effort at the plate was the formula for Tamaqua.

Jake Yenser pitched five innings, allowed two earned runs, struck out seven as and took home the win as the Blue Raiders defeated North Schuylkill 5-2 in a Schuylkill League Division I game Monday at Robert Wetzel Field.

Yenser held the Spartans (4-7, 2-5) to only seven hits and allowed three walks before Cooper Ansbach stepped on the rubber in relief. Ansbach walked a pair, but allowed no hits and fanned three across two innings.

At the plate, Luke Kane and Noah Mateyak each had two hits and an RBI for Tamaqua (12-1, 6-1). Kane, singled, doubled and scored a pair of runs in four plate appearances. Ansbach, along with Logan Morgans, chipped in an RBI for the Raiders.

For the Spartans, Kevin Jones went 2-for-4 with an RBIs. Stephen Minahan added an RBI and pitched six innings, collecting eight K’s for North Schuylkill.

Marian 12, Nativity 3

POTTSVILLE — Marian rallied for 10 runs in the top of the seventh inning to gain a comeback victory over Nativity in a Division II game.

The Hilltoppers led 3-2 after six full innings and couldn’t hang on. Brayden Grant delivered a big blow in the seventh for the Colts after he ripped a full-count, bases-clearing, three-run double to make the score 10-3 with Marian in the driver’s seat. Nick Bauder went 2-for-4 with four RBIs for the Colts.

For Nativity, Ryan Grabowski had two RBIs and Andrew Verchick hit a solo home run.

TOWER CITY — Chase Deibert went 2-for-4 with a pair of runs scored and three RBIs as Williams Valley stymied Mahanoy Area in a Division II game.

Fletcher Thompson added two RBIs, three runs scored and Gavin Trawitz chipped in two RBIs for the Vikings, while John Rautzahn pitched all five innings.

For the Golden Bears, Owen Ogrodnick and Joe Rick each had a pair of RBIs.
