HS Boys’ Track: Eagles top Miners for D-I crown, Green Wave cruises to D-II title

ORWIGSBURG —- Blue Mountain is the Schuylkill League Division I boys’ champion once again.
The Eagles used a sweep of the hurdles by Rafael Liranzo and their overall depth to outlast Minersville 88-61 in a Division I battle of unbeatens Tuesday at the Eagles’ Nest. The victory caps an unbeaten league slate for Blue Mountain (5-1, 5-0 D-I) and hands Minersville (6-1, 4-1) its lone setback in the final dual meet for both teams.
Liranzo was the lone double winner for the Eagles, who won 11 of 18 events. Gaige Guers (400), Francesco Carr (800), Chase Guers (triple jump), Kurt Krammes (shot put), Hunter Reichart (discus) and Dalton Minnick (pole vault) added individual wins for Blue Mountain, which swept the relays.
In battle of two of the league’s top sprinters, Minersville’s Paiten LaPoint (10.91) edged Blue Mountain’s Chase Guers (10.98) in the 100 meters, then LaPoint topped Guers again in the 200 in a near-photo finish, 22.11 to 22.14.
Kolin Long won the 800 and 1600, while Dante Carr took first place in the high jump and long jump and Aiden Boom won the javelin for the Miners.

MAHANOY CITY — The Green Wave left no doubt in the Division II title chase, cruising past the Golden Bears to finish their Schuylkill League slate unbeaten at 6-0.
Noah Dolbin led the way, sweeping the hurdles and taking first in the long jump. Bo McDonald won the 100 and 200, Nolan Daynorowicz captured the 800 and 1600 and George Shimko won the shot put and discus.
Kyler Quick (javelin) and Victor Hanley (3200) were the sole winners for the Golden Bears (4-2, 4-2).

FOUNTAIN SPRINGS — Luke Miller moved to the 400 and scored a key victory as the Spartans edged the Crimson Tide in a Division I meet.
Miller, who usually runs the 100, took first in the 200 and 400. Brady Welker took Miller’s place in the 100 and won in 11.08, then was second in the 200.
Wyatt Zendrosky was also a double winner for North Schuylkill (4-2, 2-2), taking first in the long jump and triple jump. The Spartans placed first and second in four of the seven field events.
Cullen Clarke paced Pottsville (2-4, 2-3) by winning the 1600 and 3200.

PINE GROVE — Scott Case won the high jump and triple jump as the Blue Raiders defeated the Cardinals in Division I action.
Tamaqua (2-3, 1-3 D-I) took first in all three throwing events, with Jacob Hehn taking discus, Larson Hudak winning the javelin and Thomas Rivera capturing the shot put. Luis Sanchez (400), Levi Kunkel (800), Aidan Elston (1600), Anthony Marchetti (3200) and Gio Rivera-Poke (110 hurdles) added wins on the track, while Tamaqua won the 1600 and 3200 relays as well.
Nathan Frankenfield took first on the 100, Tanner Kolb captured the 200, Conan DeBruyn took top honors in the 300 hurdles and Dane Hannevig won the long jump for the Cardinals (0-6, 0-5).

SCHUYLKILL HAVEN — Niko Carestia, Luke Smith and Ethan Kline each won two events as the Hurricanes downed the Colts in a Division II meet at Rotary Field.
Carestia won the 100 and javelin, Smith took first in the 110 hurdles and high jump and Kline captured the shot put and discus for Schuylkill Haven (5-1, 5-1 D-II).
James Gelatko was a double winner for Marian (1-4, 1-4), taking first in the 800 and 1600.
