HS Baseball Roundup: Hurricanes clinch Schuylkill League Division II title

SCHUYLKILL HAVEN — Alan Evans went 3-for-3 with three RBIs and Hunter Correll pitched into the sixth inning as Schuylkill Haven edged Marian Catholic 4-3 on Thursday to clinch the Schuylkill League Division II title.
Evans doubled, reached base four times and drove in a pair of early runs to help the Hurricanes (15-3, 12-0 D-II) build a 4-0 lead after four innings. Schuylkill Haven capitalized on three Marian errors, scoring three of its four runs unearned.
Correll allowed eight hits and struck out six over 5.1 innings before giving way to Michael Terefencko, who recorded the final five outs to earn the save.
Marian (8-9, 7-5) made a push in the fourth, plating three runs on RBI hits from Alex Diaz and Nate Davidovich, but stranded six runners overall. Diaz went 3-for-4 with a double and two RBIs, while Rocco Griguoli doubled and pitched five innings in the loss, surrendering just one earned run.
With the win, Schuylkill Haven secured the top spot in Division II. Shenandoah Valley (13-5, 9-3) sits in second, while Marian (8-9, 7-5) and Minersville (10-8, 7-5) remain in contention for the final playoff spot with two league games remaining.

Pine Grove 9, Tri-Valley 4
PINE GROVE — Brayden Lyons went the distance and the Cardinals broke out for four runs in the sixth inning to defeat Tri-Valley in a Division I game.
Lyons allowed nine hits and struck out six over seven innings for the win. Pine Grove (8-9, 4-6 D-I) used six hits and nine walks to fuel its offense.
Carson Lengle led the charge, going 2-for-4 with two RBIs and four stolen bases. Kale Lengle and Jake Hatter also had two hits apiece, while Quinn Brommer and Kaiden Umbenhauer each drove in runs for the Cardinals.
Tri-Valley’s Jason Stewart had a double and two hits. Braedan Doyle and Owen Miller each added two hits for the Dawgs (14-4, 7-3).

Tamaqua 7, North Schuylkill 1
TAMAQUA — Mason Ligenza crushed two home runs and drove in three runs to power Tamaqua past North Schuylkill in a Division I ballgame.
Ligenza finished 3-for-3, scored three runs, and stole a base. He hit solo homers in the third and sixth innings. According to maxpreps.com, Ligenza has hit 10 home runs this season.
Jake Yenser struck out six over six innings to earn the win, allowing one run on four hits. Noah Mateyak closed with a scoreless seventh inning for the Blue Raiders (16-1, 9-1).
North Schuylkill’s lone run came on a solo homer by Hunter Rodgers in the top of the sixth inning.

Minersville 2
MINERSVILLE — Brayden Maksimik pitched a complete-game three-hitter and Shenandoah Valley broke through with a six-run sixth inning to defeat Minersville in a Division II contest.
Maksimik struck out five and walked two over seven innings on the rubber, allowing just one earned run.
Chase McCole led the Blue Devils’ offense, going 3-for-4 with a walk and an RBI, while Jeremy Thomas delivered the big blow with a three-run triple in the sixth.
Minersville took a brief 2-1 lead in the third inning on a two-run single by Nolan Plesnarski. Cam Rogers pitched five innings in the loss, allowing five earned runs for the Battlin’ Miners.
Logan Hutsko singled to reach the 100-hit milestone for Minersville.
Shenandoah Valley totaled eight hits and six RBIs, improving its position in the Schuylkill League Division II standings.

MAHANOY CITY — Williams Valley erupted for five runs in the top of the seventh to pull away from Mahanoy Area in a back-and-forth Division II game.
Cody Boehmer tripled, drove in two runs, and also earned the save with a scoreless seventh inning. Chase Deibert doubled and knocked in two runs, while Gavin Deiter had two hits and two RBIs. The Vikings walked 11 times in the game.
John Rautzahn struck out five and allowed three earned runs over six innings for Williams Valley (8-9, 6-6). Mason Bowser and Boehmer combined to pitch the seventh.
Mikey Oblas led the Golden Bears with three hits, including a double, and three RBIs. Levi Terry added two doubles and an RBI.
Blue Mountain 13, Pottsville 1
POTTSVILLE — Aidan Grace struck out seven over five innings and went 3-for-3 with two doubles and three RBIs as Blue Mountain rolled past Pottsville in a Division I ballgame.
The Eagles (11-6, 8-3) broke the game open with an eight-run fourth inning, finishing with 12 hits and 13 RBIs. Riley Sebastian went 3-for-4 with a double and four RBIs, while Evan Setlock doubled and drove in two. Josh Hoover and Cohen Kirby added two hits apiece.
Grace allowed just two hits and one earned run while facing 17 batters. Pottsville’s (6-11, 3-6) lone run came on an RBI double by Max Clews in the fourth.
