District 11 Softball: Pine Grove routs Northern Lehigh in Class 3A semifinal

ORWIGSBURG — Chelcy Clark hurled a four-hit shutout and struck out five as Pine Grove cruised past Northern Lehigh 10-0 in six innings Friday in a District 11 Class 3A semifinal at Blue Mountain’s Patton Field.
The top-seeded Cardinals will face the Pen Argyl-Palisades winner in Wednesday’s district final.
Callee Leffler sparked Pine Grove at the plate, going 2-for-3 with a double, a home run, three runs scored and two RBIs. Leffler has homered in three straight games, giving her seven round-trippers on the season.
Hannah Aungst also had a big game, going 2-for-4 with a double, three RBIs and a run scored. Other top hitters for the Cardinals included Madison Shiffer, 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI; Addison Zimmerman, 2-for-3 with a run scored; and Lily Flynn, 2-for-3 with a double, two RBIs and a run scored.

Pleasant Valley 9, Pottsville 2
ALLENTOWN — Jo Barnhart doubled and scored a run for Pottsville, but the Crimson Tide fell to Pleasant Valley in a District 11 Class 5A semifinal at Patriots Park.
A five-run second inning powered Pleasant Valley to victory. Allison Borger hit an RBI triple, and Kailyn Getz added an RBI single in the frame. Getz finished with three RBIs.
Peyton Eckert singled and drove in a run for Pottsville.
Top-seeded Pleasant Valley advances to meet No. 2 Southern Lehigh, a 7-1 winner over Pocono Mountain East, in the championship game Thursday.

North Schuylkill 10, Saucon Valley 2
FOUNTAIN SPRINGS — Monica Selgrade went 3-for-4 with two triples, two runs scored and two RBIs to power North Schuylkill past Saucon Valley in a District 11 Class 4A quarterfinal at Dot Seidel Field.
The second-seeded Spartans will meet No. 3 Blue Mountain, a 10-0 winner over Palmerton, in Saturday’s semifinals. Game time is 7 p.m. at Pine Grove’s Susan Y. Stump Field.
Brigid Flynn pitched a complete-game four-hitter for North Schuylkill, striking out 14 and walking none. The two runs she allowed were unearned. Flynn added a single, a double and two runs scored at the plate.
Lindsay Brouse slugged a two-run home run for the Spartans. Gianna Capone and Jordanna Frie added a double and two RBIs apiece for North Schuylkill.
“Our girls played a great game today against Saucon Valley,” North Schuylkill coach Jack Flynn said. “It was great to see them come out there with great intensity and enthusiasm after our tough loss in the league playoffs. Our bats were back today, and we were hitting throughout the lineup. Brigid did a phenomenal job pitching today. … She did a great job with her placement and movement of her pitches.”

The third-seeded Eagles advance to play No. 2 North Schuylkill, a 10-2 winner over Saucon Valley, in Saturday’s semifinals. Game time is 7 p.m. at Pine Grove’s Susan Y. Stump Field.
Brown helped her cause by going 2-for-3 with two RBIs for Blue Mountain.
