PIAA Girls’ Track: Cardinals’ Luckenbach blazes to finals in AA 100 and 200

Pine Grove senior Viktorya Luckenbach
SHIPPENSBURG — Viktorya Luckenbach will come home from Shippensburg with three more state medals.
She’s hoping two of them will be gold.
The Pine Grove senior sprinter took the first step toward that quest Friday, posting the fastest time in both the 100- and 200-meter dash preliminaries at the PIAA Track and Field Championships.
The top seed in both events, Luckenbach won the 100 preliminaries in 11.95, then went 24.89 in the 200 prelims later in the day at Robb Stadium.
The 100-meter finals are set for 10:50 a.m. Saturday, with the 200 finals slated for 3 p.m.
In between, Luckenbach will team with Bella Kassab, Aubrey Aungst and Molly Drumheller and compete in the girls’ Class AA 400 relay finals after placing sixth in Friday’s preliminaries and clinching a top-eight medal.
North Catholic posted the fastest time in 48.53, followed by Quaker Valley (49.30), Lewisburg (49.41) and Annville-Cleona (49.55). The Cards were sixth in 49.76.
The 400 relay finals are scheduled to start at 1:05 p.m.
Luckenbach and her Cardinal teammates were the only Schuylkill League girls’ athletes to advance to Saturday’s finals or earn medals in Friday’s opening day of the two-day state championships.
