UBL Baseball: Grovers win 4th straight, Falcons down Southern

PINE GROVE — No. 9 hitter Grady Strubhar went 3-for-3 and scored two runs and Owen Hannevig and Ian Brown each drove in a pair as Pine Grove defeated 5th Ward A-C 8-5 on Thursday in a United Baseball League game at Stump Stadium.
The victory was the fourth straight for the Grovers (5-2), who have swept Richland and 5th Ward over the past two weeks.
Thursday, Pine Grove erased an early deficit with four runs in both the third and fourth innings. Logan Hutsko added a pair of hits, including a double, while Hannevig also had a double.
Hannevig got the victory, allowing four hits and two runs over five innings while striking out five. Hutsko pitched the final two frames.

Schuylkill Valley 6, Southern Area 1
MIDDLEPORT — The Falcons (3-2) used a four-run bottom of the first en route to an East Division win over the Lions (0-4) at Schuylkill Valley Stadium. It was Schuylkill Valley’s second win over Southern Area in three days.
Hunter Rogers and Shane Butler combined to limit Southern Area to just two hits. No other statistics were available.
Schuylkill Valley and Southern Area both host doubleheaders Sunday. The Falcons entertain 5th Ward AC at 1 p.m., while the Lions welcome Richland for a twinbill that starts at 5:30 p.m. at Greenawalt Field.

LEBANON — Owen Hannevig had a pair of hits as the Grovers edged 5th Ward on Tuesday night at the 5th Ward Athletic Club.
Pine Grove took control with a pair of runs in the fourth and led 4-0 at one point. 5th Ward made things interesting when Kevin Munoz slugged a three-run homer in the fifth.

Schuylkill Valley 6, Southern Area 5
ORWIGSBURG — Peyton Groody went 2-for-3 and drove in a pair of runs as the Falcons outlasted the Lions at Allen Greenawalt Field.
Ryan Grabowski, Luke Kane and Ryan Strauss each added RBIs for Schuylkill Valley, which broke a 4-4 tie with two runs in the sixth inning. Cooper Ansbach picked up the win, pitching 3.2 innings of relief, giving up just one hit and one run.
Andrew Blehm, Ryan Clemas, Colton Leibold and Evan Setlock had hits for Southern Area, while Josh Hoover walked three times and scored twice.

PINE GROVE — Carson Lengle went 2-for-3 with a double, homer, three runs scored and two RBIs as the Grovers decked Richland at Stump Stadium.
Owen Hannevig drove in three runs and A.J. Halford had a pair of RBIs as Pine Grove scored three times in both the first and second innings to overcome an early 3-0 deficit, then added three more runs in the fourth and fifth to pull away.
Owen Hannevig got the win, pitching six innings while allowing five hits and two earned runs, striking out five. Logan Hutsko pitched a scoreless seventh.

LAURELDALE — Peyton Groody hit a solo homer for the Falcons, but the A’s scored two runs in the bottom of the seventh to steal an East Division win at Gochnauer Field.
Schuylkill Valley mustered only two hits, but the Falcons were able to build a 2-0 lead into the sixth inning before Muhlenberg rallied.
