District 24 Little League: Blue Mountain blasts Haven, Ashland stays unbeaten

SCHUYLKILL HAVEN — Mason Cogan and Chase Goodman combined on a one-hit shutout and Carter McGhee had a big night at the plate as Blue Mountain routed Schuylkill Haven 18-0 in a four-inning District 24 Little League Major Division Pool 1 game Saturday at Rotary Field.
Cogan struck out four and walked one over 2.2 hitless innings, throwing 36 pitches. Goodman closed the final 1.1 frames, allowing just Landon Pohronezny’s one-out single in the fourth for Schuylkill Haven’s only hit.
McGhee had a two-run single in an eight-run second inning, plated a run in the third on a grounder up the middle and had a bases-loaded walk in a six-run fourth, scoring three times. Goodman had a two-run single in the second, while Ethan Bierman and Joe Dougherty each had two-run singles in the fourth as Blue Mountain stayed unbeaten.
Ashland also improved to 2-0 in Pool 1 with a 5-1 victory over SPN. Pottsville outlasted Upper Schuylkill 8-4 in seven innings in the other Major Division game Saturday.
In 8-10-year-old games Saturday, Schuylkill Haven cruised past Pine Grove 19-2, Blue Mountain downed Ashland 24-1 and Upper Schuylkill edged Millersburg 4-3.
