BARNESVILLE — Back to back.
The team of Randy Kurzinsky and Bobby Hillibush captured their second straight Hidden Mountain Challenge championship by carding a 9-under 63 in Sunday’s final round at Mountain Valley Golf Course.
The Schuylkill County Amateur Golf-sponsored tournament began in 2024 as the Hidden Birch Challenge, with the first round of the two-person better ball at Hidden Valley Golf Course in Friedensburg and the second round at White Birch Golf Course in Barnesville. This year, due to a scheduling conflict, the second round was held at Mountain Valley Golf Course in Barnesville.
Kurzinsky and Hillibush combined to shoot a 10-under 62 in Saturday’s first round at Hidden Valley, one stroke behind the team of Dan Brown and Jim Gardner, which shot a 61. The father-son team of Alan Zelinsky and Josh Zelinsky also carded a 62 on Saturday.
Sunday, Kurzinsky and Hillibush overcame a double-bogey 6 on No. 1 to compile a round that featured nine birdies and an eagle on the par-5 No. 15.
Their two-day total of 62-63—125 was two shots better than Brown and Gardner, who shot a 66 on Sunday and finished at 61-66—127. The team of Nick Hand and Steve Rice (64-65—129) was third, while Ray Miske and Sean Misstishin (64-66—130) were fourth and Chris Decker and Bailey Sophy (63-68—131) were fifth.
The 24-team event was split into two flights, with the team of Jason Beltz and Bill Dobrolsky taking 1st Flight honors with a 70-75—145, one stroke ahead of both Chris Glessner and Jared Sabitsky (70-76—146) and Tom Erbe and Tyler Savakinas (76-70—146).
