HS Cheer: Pine Grove Area starts season strong after honing skills at NCA Cheer Camp

Photo & story by Melissa Broy, PGA Cheerleading coach
PINE GROVE — The Pine Grove Area Cheerleaders attended NCA Camp at Lake Bryn Mawr in Honesdale, Pennsylvania from August 12th through the 15th. We loaded up 16 girls and traveled two and half hours for a four day camp.
These sixteen girls endured the hot, humid 4 days of camp with a smile. They had a packed schedule of all cheer from 8am to 8pm learning new cheers, chants, dances and stunts. The girls did absolutely amazing and put their sore muscles and tired bodies aside to push through each day. Their perseverance paid off earning them a spirit stick at the end of each night. Six girls were nominated to try out for All American. Although they were not chosen, it was an honor to be nominated.

We ended camp walking away with their highest award, the Herkie Team Award, given to a team that embodies the qualities of leadership, unity, values, and sportsmanship. We also received the award for Technical Excellence for Motions.

Coach Melissa Broy and chaperone Lisa Wagner watched in amazement at all the girls have learned throughout the week and the special achievements they have earned. We also experienced the bonds the girls have made not only with our squad but cheer squads from Pa and other states.
