HS Soccer: Pottsville girls hold off North Schuylkill in D-I battle

GIRLS
Pottsville 3, North Schuylkill 2
POTTSVILLE — Megan Goodman, assisted by Emily Steidle, scored the go-ahead goal in the 51st minute, and Pottsville held on for a Schuylkill League Division I victory over North Schuylkill at Alumni Field.
Riley Davis scored the other goals for Pottsville. The first, assisted by Bella Wright, gave the Crimson Tide (3-4, 3-1 D-I) a 1-0 halftime lead. Emma Quirin-Morris assisted on Davis’ other goal.
Addie Urban and Addie Balicki netted goals for the Spartans (3-5, 3-2).
Pottsville outshot North Schuylkill 17-7. Keira Wengrenovich made 14 saves for North Schuylkill; Julie Stock stopped five shots for Pottsville.
Tamaqua 6, Shenandoah Valley 0
POTTSVILLE — Katie Fredericks scored four goals to power Tamaqua to a Division I win over Shenandoah Valley.
Evelyn Leinbach tallied a single goal, while Gabby Chistakoff added one goal and one assist for the Blue Raiders (3-3, 1-3 D-I). Shaylee Gormley had one assist.
Tamaqua outshot Shenandoah Valley 37-7. Ceanna Gormley made five saves to post her second shutout of the season for the Blue Raiders. Emilee Pinkey made 25 saves for the Blue Devils (3-3, 1-3).
Minersville 4, Weatherly 0
WEATHERLY — Hope Motuk had two goals and two assists to spark Minersville to a Division II victory over Weatherly.
Kloee Horoschak added two goals and one assist for the Battlin’ Miners (6-1-1, 3-0-1 D-II).
Millie Bierman made two saves to earn the shutout in goal. Kayla Kennelly made 18 saves for Weatherly (0-6, 0-4).
Blue Mountain 10, Marian 0
ORWIGSBURG — Lexi Waschko scored twice and dished out one assist as Blue Mountain cruised past Marian (1-5, 0-4 D-I) in a Division I match at the Eagles’ Nest.
Alanza Smith added two goals, while Reegan Spangler had two assists for the Eagles (5-1, 5-0). Addie Warke and Ella Zelinsky had one goal and one assist apiece for Blue Mountain. Gianna Chipriano, Kyra Moran, Emmerson Frie and Annabelle Rechos notched single goals for Blue Mountain, which led 8-0 at halftime.
Frie and Karley Koch combined on the shutout in goal.
Schuylkill Haven 5, Lourdes 0
SHAMOKIN — Kylie Siket netted a pair of goals to lead Schuylkill Haven over Lourdes in a Division II match.
Audrey Hutchinson, Madison Bayer and Ava Terefencko added single goals for the Hurricanes (4-1-1, 3-0-1 D-II). Kelly Ulsh picked up an assist.
Ally Becker made two saves to earn the shutout for Schuylkill Haven. Sierra Balonis had 11 saves for Lourdes (0-6, 0-4).
BOYS
Minersville 10, Marian 1
MINERSVILLE — Evan Handling and Chase Zimerofsky scored two goals apiece to lead Minersville to a non-league victory over Marian (0-5).
Shane Fessler, Jordan Bowers, Cam Rodgers, Dakota Dullard, Johnny Burgess and Mackaiden Sinko added one goal apiece for the Battlin’ Miners (5-2).
Jim Thorpe 7, North Schuylkill 1
FOUNTAIN SPRINGS — Johnny Walsh, assisted by Angel Torres, scored for North Schuylkill in a non-league loss to Jim Thorpe.
Brayden Davis made 16 saves for the Spartans (1-4).
Greenwood 4, Tri-Valley 1
MILLERSTOWN — Nathan Hillard, assisted by Dalton Leitzel, scored for Tri-Valley in a non-league loss to Greenwood.
Brayden Leese made 13 saves for the Bulldogs (4-3).
Shikellamy 8, Williams Valley 3
SUNBURY — John Rautzahn scored two goals for Williams Valley in a non-league loss to Shikellamy.
Ethan Lebo added one goal and one assist, while Collin Berger tallied one assist for the Vikings (1-3).
Xzavion Tennis made 20 saves for Williams Valley.
Jaden Garcia scored four goals for Shikellamy.
