BOYS’ SOCCER

Blue Mountain 3, Moravian Academy 2

ORWIGSBURG — Evan Burcik’s second-half goal made the difference as Blue Mountain knocked off Moravian Academy in a non-league match Saturday at the Eagles’ Nest.

Selman Eris gave the Lions (6-2) a 1-0 lead, but Dylan Knittle scored back-to-back goals to put the Eagles ahead 2-1 at halftime. Drew Waschko assisted on Knittle’s first score; Blake Batory assisted on the second.

After intermission, Burcik made it 3-1, scoring off an assist from Sean Gaddy. Later in the second half, Enzo Reis got one goal back for Moravian Academy, but Blue Mountain (6-2) held on for the victory.

Caden Wargo made nine saves for Blue Mountain; Jaise Shah stopped seven shots for the Lions.

The JV match ended in a 1-1 draw.

Minersville 5, Notre Dame-ES 1

EAST STROUDSBURG — Jordan Bowers had two goals and one assist as Minersville posted a non-league road win over Notre Dame-East Stroudsburg.

Aidan Ryan, Shane Fessler and Cam Rodgers netted one goal apiece for the Miners (6-3).

Dylan Haslam made five saves for Minersville.

Lourdes 5, Bloomsburg 2

SHAMOKIN — Orrin Mariano notched three goals and one assist to lead Lourdes past Bloomsburg in a non-league match.

Majed Kanafani added one goal and one assist for the Red Raiders (4-4).

Nathan Yablonski stopped 12 shots in goal for Lourdes.

Montgomery 1, Williams Valley 0

MONTGOMERY — Dylan Sherman’s first-half goal lifted Montgomery over Williams Valley in a non-league match.

Just before the goal, Williams Valley keeper Xzavion Tennis made a brilliant save parry. When the Vikings’ fullback tried to clear, the ball deflected off Sherman’s shoulder and just got under the crossbar.

Tennis finished with 14 saves for Williams Valley (1-6).

Pine Grove 1, Millersburg 0

PINE GROVE — Tanner Kolb’s goal stood up as Pine Grove (8-2) knocked off previously unbeaten Millersburg in a non-league match at Cardinal Stadium.

GIRLS’ SOCCER

Minersville 4, North Schuylkill 0

FOUNTAIN SPRINGS — Hope Motuk netted two goals and assisted on another as Minersville shut out North Schuylkill in a non-league girls’ soccer match.

Kloee Horoschak added one goal and one assist for the Miners (7-1-2). Grace Sterner scored at 45:43 to double Minersville’s 1-0 halftime lead to 2-0.

Bella Rizzardi made six saves for Minersville. Keira Wengrenovich stopped six shots for the Spartans (4-6).

Schuylkill Haven 6, Pine Grove 0

PINE GROVE — Taylor Haag and Kylie Siket had two goals and one assist apiece to lead Schuylkill Haven over Pine Grove in a non-league match.

Audrey Hutchinson and Allie Scherer added one goal each for the Hurricanes (5-2-1).

Ally Becker made three saves for Schuylkill Haven. Alyssa Moyer stopped five shots for Pine Grove (3-3-1).

GIRLS’ VOLLEYBALL

Tide finish 2nd at tourney

CENTER VALLEY — Pottsville played its way into the finals before settling for silver at the Southern Lehigh Tournament.

In Pool A, Southern Lehigh finished first, and Plymouth-Whitemarsh took second. Blue Mountain won Pool B. Pottsville finished second with a 6-2 record in pool action.

In the semifinals, Pottsville knocked off Southern Lehigh 25-22, and Plymouth-Whitemarsh eliminated Blue Mountain.

In the championship match, Plymouth-Whitemarsh defeated Pottsville 25-23, 25-16.

Pine Grove 3, Minersville 0

PINE GROVE — Bella Kassab hit four kills and five aces to lead Pine Grove past Minersville 25-10, 25-9, 25-14 on Saturday in a non-league match.

Lily Flynn added four kills and two aces, while Graycie Griffiths hit six aces for the Cardinals (6-2).

For Minersville (1-9), Bella Cruz had two assists and two digs; Aliyah Webster made three digs; and Caty Ilsley contributed three kills and three blocks.

Pine Grove won JV 2-0.

Tri-Valley 3, Upper Dauphin 0

HEGINS — Liv Lupole had 10 kills and eight digs as Tri-Valley swept Upper Dauphin 25-15, 25-17, 25-14 in a non-league match.

Aubrianna Zimmerman added five kills and one ace; Callie Melocheck compiled eight aces, 31 assists and six digs; and Faith Melocheck notched 10 kills and seven digs for the Bulldogs (8-0).

Tri-Valley won JV 2-0.

Halifax 3, Williams Valley 1

TOWER CITY — Naomi Carl set a Williams Valley record for career aces, but Halifax took the non-league match 25-15, 25-16, 20-25, 25-23.

Carl finished with eight aces, giving her a school-record 156. She added four kills, four service points and 11 digs for the Vikings (4-3). Also for Williams Valley, Emily Miller had four kills and 24 digs, and Emma Reinoehl contributed 19 assists and 10 digs.

Williams Valley won JV 2-1.

South Williamsport 3, Lourdes 2

SHAMOKIN — Maddie Wertman had nine kills and three blocks for Lourdes, but South Williamsport rallied past the Red Raiders 17-25, 20-25, 25-21, 25-8, 15-6 in non-league action.

Bella Cherry added 27 digs and three aces, while Bella Hudick compiled six aces, four kills and 16 digs for Lourdes (1-9).

South Williamsport won JV 2-0.

Weatherly 3, Executive Education 1

WEATHERLY — Abby Weston had 10 service points, 31 assists, two aces and three digs as Weatherly defeated Executive Education 25-21, 15-25, 26-24, 25-22 on Friday for its first victory of the season.

Other key players for the Wreckers (1-7) included Abigail Binder with three service points, three aces, seven kills and 14 digs; and Kelly Reiner with 10 service points, two aces, four kills and nine digs.
