BOYS’ SOCCER

Minersville 2, Schuylkill Haven 0

MINERSVILLE — Dylan Haslam made five saves to post the shutout in goal, lifting Minersville over Schuylkill Haven on Wednesday in a Schuylkill League Division II boys’ soccer match.

Evan Handling, assisted by Shane Fessler, got Minersville (8-3, 4-2 D-II) on the board, and the Miners took that 1-0 lead to halftime.

After intermission, Chase Zimerofsky netted an insurance goal for Minersville.

Elliot Wehr made 16 saves for Schuylkill Haven (4-5, 4-2).

Blue Mountain 3, Pine Grove 1

PINE GROVE — Evan Burcik had one goal and one assist to lead Blue Mountain over Pine Grove in a Division I first-place showdown. The Eagles have won seven in a row; the Cardinals saw their five-game winning streak end.

Blake Batory, assisted by Burcik, struck first for the Eagles (8-2, 6-0 D-I). Later in the first half, Burcik, assisted by Sean Gaddy, connected to make it 2-0.

Tanner Kolb converted a penalty kick to cut Pine Grove’s deficit to 2-1 at intermission.

Drew Waschko booted a penalty kick in the second half to give the Eagles an insurance goal.

Caden Wargo made one save for Blue Mountain. Peyton Renninger made three saves for Pine Grove (9-3, 5-2). Dru Herber also played in goal for the Cardinals.

Pottsville 4, North Schuylkill 1

FOUNTAIN SPRINGS — Chase Richter had one goal and one assist to lead Pottsville to a Division I victory over North Schuylkill.

Richter and Jayden Hossler netted goals to give the Crimson Tide a 2-0 lead at halftime. Brogan Rooney, assisted by Billy Davis, and Juan Moreno scored second-half goals for Pottsville (4-4-1, 3-3 D-I).

Max Helwig, assisted by Leopoldo Garcia Ruiz, scored for North Schuylkill (3-6, 3-4).

Pottsville held the edge in shots (25-5) and corner kicks (7-2).

Landon Trout made four saves for the Tide; Braiden Davis stopped seven shots for the Spartans.

Pottsville won the JV match 1-0.

Shenandoah Valley 3, Tri-Valley 2

SHENANDOAH — Armando Porfirio scored two goals, and Shenandoah Valley held off Tri-Valley in a Division II match.

Caleb Campos made six saves for the Blue Devils (7-5, 4-2 D-II).

Nathan Hillard scored both goals for Tri-Valley (6-4, 4-2). The first goal came on a penalty kick.

Brayden Leese made five saves for the Bulldogs.

Tamaqua 5, Lourdes 1

TAMAQUA — Chase Behr had two goals and one assist to lead Tamaqua past Lourdes in a Division I match.

Lusvin Lumas added two goals for the Blue Raiders (2-7, 2-4 D-I). Aidan Elston posted one goal and one assist for Tamaqua.

Majed Kanafani scored a goal for Lourdes (4-6, 3-4), which trailed 3-1 at halftime.

Jakin Tamagini made 10 saves for Tamaqua; Nathan Yablonski stopped seven shots for Lourdes.

The JV match ended in a scoreless tie.

Williams Valley 5, Weatherly 1

WEATHERLY — Ethan Lebo notched two goals and two assists to spark Williams Valley to a Division II win over Weatherly.

Collin Berger, assisted by Lebo, started the scoring in the 24th minute, and John Rautzahn, assisted by Berger, scored in the 34th minute to put the Vikings ahead 2-0 at halftime. Christian Davis added one goal for Williams Valley (2-7, 2-4 D-II), while Rautzahn and Dawson Brennan posted one assist apiece.

Jeremiah Donadi scored for Weatherly (0-9, 0-6) in the 47th minute to cut the deficit to 2-1, but Williams Valley answered with thee goals to pull away.

Xzavion Tennis made four saves for Williams Valley; Noah Mayernick stopped 14 shots for Weatherly.

SCHUYLKILL HAVEN — Taylor Haag scored three goals and Kylie Siket dished out three assists to lead Schuylkill Haven past Tri-Valley in a Division II match.

Audrey Hutchinson added one goal and one assist for the Hurricanes (6-2-1, 4-0-1 D-II). Ava Terefencko netted the other goal for Schuylkill Haven.

Ally Becker made three saves in goal to post the shutout for Schuylkill Haven; Holt stopped six shots for Tri-Valley.

GIRLS’ VOLLEYBALL

Nativity 3, Shenandoah Valley 0

TAMAQUA — Janelle Ziegmont had 10 kills and three digs as Nativity defeated Shenandoah Valley 25-7, 25-13, 25-14 in a Schuylkill League Division II match.

Amara Miller added three kills and six digs; Lily Baran notched nine kills; and Madison Purcell compiled seven kills, two aces and two digs for Nativity (6-4, 6-2 D-II).

For Shenandoah Valley (4-6, 3-5), Brianna Tufts made 10 digs; Brittany Tufts had two kills, four assists and five digs; and Aubrie Monaghan made nine digs.

Nativity won JV 2-0.

Schuylkill Haven 3, Lourdes 1

SCHUYLKILL HAVEN — Lydia Hartz had three aces, 17 assists and four digs as Schuylkill Haven topped Lourdes 23-25, 25-17, 25-11, 25-19 in a non-league match.

Hailey Keppley added three aces, three kills and 10 digs, while Grace Line notched four aces and 20 digs for the Hurricanes (3-6).

For Lourdes (1-11), Bella Cherry had 26 digs and two aces; Bella Hudick compiled 12 digs, four kills and two aces; and Margo Yablonski chipped in five assists and one ace.

Schuylkill Haven won JV 2-0.
