HS Soccer: Motuk, Minersville girls hold off Tri-Valley

GIRLS

Minersville 2, Tri-Valley 1

MINERSVILLE — Hope Motuk netted a pair of goals to lift Minersville over Tri-Valley on Tuesday in a key Schuylkill League Division II girls’ soccer match.

Motuk got the Battlin’ Miners (10-2-2, 5-1-1 D-II) on the board with an unassisted goal at 17:02. Ayla Allvord equalized for the Bulldogs (5-9, 3-4) at 33:54, scoring off an assist by Maggie Hoffman-Long.

Tied 1-1 at halftime, Motuk scored the go-ahead goal at 45:37 off an assist from Emily Yoder, and Minersville’s defense made that lead stand up to the finish.

Bella Rizzardi made eight saves for Minersville; Sophia Holt stopped 10 shots for the Dawgs.

Blue Mountain 6, Tamaqua 0

ORWIGSBURG — Ella Smith, Kyleigh Batory, Kelly Canfield, Lexi Waschko, Reegan Spangler and Ella Zelinsky scored one goal apiece as Blue Mountain used its balance and depth to defeat Tamaqua in a Division I match.

Caitlyn McGhee had two assists for the Eagles (12-2, 10-0 D-I), who led 3-0 at halftime. Kiera Nunemacher and Hailey Scheuer also picked up one assist each for Blue Mountain.

The Eagles outshot Tamaqua 32-1 and led 10-0 in corner kicks.

Ceanna Gormley made 23 saves for Tamaqua (5-8, 3-6); Alanza Smith and Karley Koch played in goal for the Eagles.

Blue Mountain won the JV match 8-0.

Southern Columbia 4, Pottsville 2

CATAWISSA RR — Megan Goodman had one goal and one assist for Pottsville, but Southern Columbia pulled out the non-league victory.

Emma Quirin-Morris, assisted by Goodman, gave the Crimson Tide a 1-0 lead 6:16 into the first half, but goals by Kaylee Laubach and Marie Swank put the Tigers up 2-1 at halftime.

Goodman, assisted by Riley Davis, knotted the match 2-2 at 47:13 for Pottsville (7-7). Kennadie Reamer answered with back-to-back goals for Southern Columbia (12-1).

The Tigers outshot the Tide 22-8. Julie Stock (18 saves) and Lucy Dougherty (0 saves) played in goal for Pottsville. Daphney Bingaman made six saves for Southern Columbia.

In other matches, Shenandoah Valley beat Marian 4-0; Williams Valley topped Weatherly 3-0; and Schuylkill Valley downed Schuylkill Haven 2-0.

North Schuylkill 0, Pine Grove 0 (tie)

PINE GROVE — North Schuylkill and Pine Grove played to a scoreless draw in a Division I match at Cardinal Stadium.

Pine Grove outshot North Schuylkill 15-3 and led 5-0 in corner kicks. Alyssa Moyer made three saves for the Cardinals (7-5-2, 5-4-1 D-I); Abby Balicki stopped 15 shots for the Spartans (5-9-1, 5-4-1).

BOYS

Tri-Valley 10, Weatherly 1

WEATHERLY — Nathan Hillard scored six goals to power Tri-Valley to a Division II win over Weatherly.

Garett Leitzel added two goals and six assists for the Bulldogs (9-5, 6-2 D-II), who built a 6-0 halftime lead.

Tyler Mowery had one goal and one assist, while Riley Kaslavage had Tri-Valley’s other goal.

Zaiden Shiffer got credited with the goal for Weatherly (0-13, 0-8).

Brayden Leese played in goal for Tri-Valley, making no saves. Noah Mayernick stopped 12 shots for the Wreckers.

In other matches, Shenandoah Valley defeated Williams Valley 8-2; Palisades downed Schuylkill Haven 7-0; and Northern Lehigh stopped Tamaqua 6-2.
