HS Girls’ Volleyball: Pottsville sweeps Panther Valley in Division I battle

Pottsville 3, Panther Valley 0
POTTSVILLE — Megan Yost had 27 assists, 19 digs and two kills Thursday to lead Pottsville over Panther Valley 25-22, 25-20, 25-12 in a Schuylkill League Division I girls’ volleyball showdown.
Maggie Brennan added eight kills, seven digs and four blocks, while Ava Schwartz compiled 14 digs, five kills and two blocks for the Crimson Tide (14-4, 12-2 D-I).
For the Panthers (16-2, 12-2), Morgan Orsulak had 18 kills, 12 assists and four digs; JaeLynn Browdy added 11 kills, 13 assists and five digs; Caroline Breslin made 12 digs; and Kathryn Breslin chipped in nine digs.
Panther Valley won JV 2-0.
The Schuylkill League playoffs will open with quarterfinals Monday at Minersville. Division I third-place Blue Mountain will meet Division II second-place Marian at 5:30 p.m. Division I second-place Pottsville will take on Division II third-place Nativity at 6:45 p.m. The semifinals will be at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday at Martz Hall. Panther Valley and Tri-Valley have byes into the semifinals.
The championship match will be at 7 p.m. Thursday at Martz Hall.

Nativity 3, Salem Christian 1
POTTSVILLE — Morgan Howell and Addisan Ricard reached milestones as Nativity defeated Salem Christian 25-15, 25-21, 15-25, 25-22 in a non-league match.
Howell had three assists and 13 digs, recording her 500th career dig during the match. Ricard compiled 26 assists, six aces, five digs and two kills; in the process, she notched her 1,000th career assist.
Also for Nativity (13-7), Finley McNamara had 12 kills and three aces; Lily Baran added nine kills, two digs and two blocks; and Amara Miller chipped in seven digs and four kills.
For Salem Christian (10-10), Emma Bose had 11 kills, six blocks and three aces; and Natalie Russel notched seven digs and three aces.
Tri-Valley 3, Minersville 0
MINERSVILLE — Arianna John had three digs and two kills for Minersville, but Tri-Valley (18-0, 14-0 D-II) took the Division II match 25-3, 25-14, 25-11.
Aliyah Webster made four digs, while Bella Cruz added four digs and three assists for the Battlin’ Miners (2-20, 2-12).
Tri-Valley won JV 2-0.
Marian 3, Weatherly 0
WEATHERLY — Eris Hayes posted 17 aces, 13 assists, three digs and two kills as Marian swept Weatherly 25-2, 25-11, 25-4 in a Division II match.
Joelle Currie added 10 assists, three aces and two digs, while Alena Lombardo hit eight kills for the Fillies (15-5, 12-2 D-II).
For the Wreckers (1-17, 0-14), Abby Weston had five assists and two digs; Jillian Russell tallied three service points and three digs; and Kelly Reiner compiled four digs, three service points and two aces.
Pine Grove 3, Lourdes 0
SHAMOKIN — Lily Flynn posted 12 kills, four aces and two blocks to lead Pine Grove past Lourdes 25-15, 25-11, 25-15 in Division I action.
Graycie Griffiths added five kills and five digs, while Molly Drumheller contributed four digs, two aces and two assists for the Cardinals (10-10, 7-7 D-I).
For Lourdes (1-19, 0-14), Sophia Padula had five assists and three digs; and Bella Hudick notched four digs and three kills.
Pine Grove won JV 2-0.
Mahanoy Area 3, Tamaqua 1
TAMAQUA — Hailey Mroczka had 18 digs, 12 kills and four aces to lead Mahanoy Area to a 25-14, 27-25, 24-26, 25-16 victory over Tamaqua in a Division I match.
Ava Kowalchick added eight kills and three aces, while Samantha Price notched five digs and three kills for the Golden Bears (12-8, 6-8 D-I).
For the Blue Raiders (10-12, 3-11), Leah Black had 13 digs, nine kills and two aces; Madison Schock tallied 27 assists, 14 digs, three kills and two aces; Isadora Neifers hit nine kills; Millie Black contributed 14 digs, nine kills and two blocks; Kelsey Lusch chipped in 14 digs and two aces; Kendle Miller chipped in five kills and three digs; Carla Castro-Sencion had three aces and two digs; and Payton Selby made three digs.
Mahanoy Area won JV 2-0.
Shenandoah Valley 3, Schuylkill Haven 1
SCHUYLKILL HAVEN — Danna Chagolla compiled nine aces, five kills, four blocks and three digs as Shenandoah Valley outlasted Schuylkill Haven 25-23, 25-13, 20-25, 25-19 in a Division II match.
Ava Antz added eight aces, seven kills and three blocks, while Aubrey Getz made 10 digs for the Blue Devils (8-10, 6-8 D-II).
For the Hurricanes (5-13, 4-10), Lydia Hartz had 21 assists and six digs; Hailey Keppley notched nine digs and seven kills; and Grace Line made 23 digs.
Schuylkill Haven won JV 2-0.
