HS Football Stat Leaders: Five QBs top 1,000-yard mark

Three area quarterbacks reached the 1,000-yard mark for the season last week, upping the total to five through eight weeks.
Lehighton’s Jayse Lehighton (1,036), Blue Mountain’s Cohen Kirby (1,028) and Panther Valley’s Brody Breiner (1,002) topped the 1,000-yard mark in their games last Friday, joining Minersville’s Dante Carr (1,303) and Jim Thorpe’s Cole Lazorick (1,256). Carr leads the area in passing TDs with 22 is just two behind Notre Dame-Green Pond’s Matt Bodnar (24) in the Schuylkill-Colonial Cooperative.
Those five could be joined by three more this Friday. North Schuylkill’s Caden Mengel (932), Pottsville’s Andrew Allen (912) and Williams Valley’s Brady Shomper (880) are within range of topping the 1,000-yard mark.
There are three rushers that have hurdled the 1,000-yard plateau — North Schuylkill’s Luke Miller (school-record 1,723), Schuylkill Haven’s Colton Reber (1,514) and Tamaqua’s Terrence McDowell (1,160). Williams Valley’s Fletcher Thompson (896), Lehighton’s Lucas Croizier (861) and Minersville’s Dante Carr (858) could join them this week. Reber (166) and Miller (148) are 1-2 in the area in scoring.
Defensive leaders are posted for the first time.
Pine Grove’s Wyatt Snyder (118), Tri-Valley’s Cole Gemberling (107) and Marian’s Jah Bushati (93) are 1-2-3 in tackles, while Schuylkill Haven’s Chase Williams (17) leads the area in tackles for loss (17) and teammate Niko Castilo is first in sacks with seven.
