The Hurricanes capped the regular season as the No. 1-ranked team in Class AA in this week’s PennLive.com state rankings.
The Hurricanes improved to 10-0 with a rout of Tri-Valley and have been at No. 1 in Class AA since their win over Blue Mountain in Week 1. They’ll begin the postseason as the top seed in the District 11 Class AA field and host Catasauqua in the quarterfinals at 6 p.m. Saturday at Rotary Field.
Williams Valley (9-1) remained at No. 6 in Class AA following its win over Pine Grove, while Minersville (8-2) is still a Team to Watch in Class AA after the Miners downed Panther Valley. Williams Valley hosts Executive Education and Minersville entertains Pen Argyl in Saturday’s District 11 Class AA quarterfinals.
North Schuylkill (7-3) remained a Team to Watch in the Class 3A rankings after closing the regular season on a four-game win streak. The Spartans’ three losses came to three state-ranked teams that finished a combined 29-1. North Schuylkill, seeded third, faces Panther Valley in Thursday’s District 11 Class 3A quarterfinals at 7 p.m. at Ghosh Orthodontics Field at Spartan Stadium.
In the Schuylkill-Colonial Cooperative, Southern Lehigh (9-1) fell from No. 1 in Class 4A to third after losing to Northwestern Lehigh. Twin Valley (10-0) took over the top spot, leapfrogging Shamokin (10-0), which remained No. 2.
