D-11 Football: Ryon powers Lackawanna Trail past Nativity with record-setting performance
FACTORYVILLE —Isaac Ryon delivered a historic performance Friday, finding the end zone seven times and cementing his place in Lackawanna Trail’s record book while leading the Lions to a dominant postseason victory.
The senior running back became the program’s single-season rushing leader as Lackawanna Trail defeated Nativity 50 to 6 in a District 2/11 Subregional Class A semifinal at Lackawanna Trail Jr./Sr. High School.
“I have a great group of kids here,” Nativity coach Pat Mason said. “I started four freshman on offense tonight. A third of roster is freshman, we have around 30 kids. Think about that. These are great kids to coach. I enjoy coshing them every day. I have fun, I love what I do. And listen, (Lackawanna Trail) is a great football team over there. They’re a fantastic football team and a team that does things quite well. I have a lot of respect for those guys — they do things the right way — obviously they were a lot better than us tonight.”
The Lions (10-1) led 36-0 after one quarter and 43-0 at halftime before Ryon capped his night with a 57-yard touchdown run late in the third. He finished with 211 rushing yards on 10 carries and surpassed 2,000 rushing yards for the season.
Nativity (4-7) scored on its opening drive of the second half when quarterback Cole Mason broke free for a touchdown. The Green Wave forced a stop to start the third quarter before the Lions returned their starting offense to the field, answering with Ryon’s seventh score.
The Lions scored on their first five possessions, including touchdown runs of 53, 46, 22 and 1 yard by Ryon and a 55-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Tyler Jervis to Kaylix Douglas. Ryon added a 21-yard run in the second quarter.

Nativity moved the ball on the ground behind Mason, who rushed for 116 yards on 24 carries, but the Green Wave were unable to convert scoring opportunities early.
Colin Owens blocked a punt for Nativity with 7:51 left in the second quarter, setting up the Lions inside the red zone. Lackawanna Trail later used its second-team unit to finish the first half.
High winds affected special-teams play throughout the game, complicating punts, kicks and passing attempts for both teams.

Nativity ends its season at 4-7. Lackawanna Trail advances to the District 2/11 Class A championship and will play Tri-Valley (7-4) at home this Friday.
“I thought you could classify our season as this: we beat the teams we were supposed to beat and we lost the games we were supposed to lose,” Pat Mason said. “Maybe Panther Valley is the only game that is up in the air as a loss — they’re a really good football team too. But we didn’t get over the top. We didn’t get that signature win, that upset, we normally get here at Nativity. But we’re going to keep doing what we do. We’re going to keep plugging away and keep getting better.”
