Spartans climb into PennLive.com Class 3A Top 10

North Schuylkill joined Schuylkill Haven and Williams Valley as local teams ranked in the top 10 of their respective classes in this week’s PennLive.com Pennsylvania High School Football state rankings.

The Spartans (8-3) climbed into the Class 3A poll this week at No. 10 after soundly beating Panther Valley 53-27 in the District 11 Class 3A quarterfinals last Thursday. North Schuylkill, which has won five straight games, visits No. 2 Northwestern Lehigh (11-0) in the district semifinals Friday in New Tripoli.

Notre Dame-Green Pond (11-0), which takes on Tamaqua in the other Class 3A semifinal, remains at No. 3 in the Class 3A rankings.

Schuylkill Haven (11-0) remained No. 1 in the Class AA rankings for the 11th straight week after blowing out Catasauqua 62-14 in the District 11 quarterfinals Saturday. The Hurricanes host Northern Lehigh in the district semifinals Saturday at Rotary Field.

Williams Valley (10-1) remained at No. 6 in Class AA following its win over Executive Education, while Minersville (9-2) is still a Team to Watch in Class AA after the Miners downed Pen Argyl. The Vikings and Miners clash Saturday in Williamstown in a District 11 Class AA semifinal.
