Haven, Vikings remain among top teams in state poll
Friday’s District 11 Class AA championship game will be a battle between two of the top six teams in the state, according to the latest PennLive.com rankings.
Schuylkill Haven and Williams Valley clash for the district title for the third straight year at 7 p.m. Friday at Blue Mountain’s Eagles’ Nest. Both the Hurricanes and Vikings have been ranked among the top teams in the state all season and that didn’t change this week.
Unbeaten Schuylkill Haven (12-0) remained atop the Class AA poll, which is compiled by Eric Epler of PennLive.com. The Hurricanes have been No. 1 in Class AA since their Week 1 win over Blue Mountain.
Williams Valley (11-1) stayed at No. 6 in the weekly rankings after the Vikings downed Minersville in Saturday’s Class AA semifinals. The Vikings had been as high as No. 3 before Schuylkill Haven won the regular-season meeting between the teams 43-29 on Sept. 26 in Williamstown.
The top nine teams in the Class AA state poll remained unchanged from last week, as Haven is followed by Troy, Bishop McCort, Farrell, Southern Columbia, Williams Valley, Richland, Seton-LaSalle, Lakeland and Steel-High.
Local teams North Schuylkill and Minersville, which were ranked in last week’s state polls, dropped out after playoff losses this weekend.
