Blue Mountain 45, Pottsville 35

POTTSVILLE — Callie Peel poured in a game-high 18 points and Hailey Place added 14 to power Blue Mountain to a 45-35 victory over Pottsville in a Schuylkill League Division I girls’ basketball contest Friday at Martz Hall.

Peel and Place combined for nine points in a game-opening, 15-6 run that put Blue Mountain ahead to stay. Peel finished 9-for-10 from the foul line, including 7-of-8 in the fourth quarter to help the Eagles ice it.

Jo Barnhart paced Pottsville with 11 points.

FOUNTAIN SPRINGS — Gianna Capone opened the season on fire, scoring 11 of her game-high 16 points in the first quarter as the Spartans routed the Panthers in a Division I game.

Mya Conti added 14 points and Jadelin Stitzer tallied 10 as North Schuylkill led 22-6 after one frame and 46-13 at halftime.

Lucy Kocha led Panther Valley with 12 points.

MINERSVILLE — Hollyn Sampson and Callee Leffler combined for 23 points in a dominating first half as the Cardinals downed the Miners in a Division I game at the Thomas Fitzpatrick Gymnasium.

Sampson had 12 of her game-high 20 points and Leffler scored 11 of her 17 in the first half, helping Pine Grove build a 27-10 halftime cushion.

Alayna Boom had 13 points and Sara McGrath collected 10 for Minersville.

Mahanoy Area scored 42 of its points in the first half, leading 29-2 after one quarter.

ELIZABETHVILLE — Mallory Miller led a balanced attack with 15 points as the Vikings cruised past Northumberland Christian in the opening round of the UDA Tip-Off Tournament at Upper Dauphin.

Presley Shomper, Quin Smeltz and Ireland Kasper each added nine for Williams Valley, which trailed 11-7 after one quarter before outscoring Northumberland Christian 37-6 the rest of the game.

Williams Valley faces Mount Carmel, which downed Upper Dauphin 33-7 in the other semifinal, in Saturday’s championship game at 5 p.m.

ELIZABETHVILLE — Alan Evans, Justin Watcher and Brady Kelly each had seven points in a 26-4, first-quarter outburst as the Hurricanes routed Northumberland Christian in the opening round of the UDA Tip-Off Tournament at Upper Dauphin.

Evans finished with a team-high 19 points, while Watcher and Kelly each tallied 16. Schuylkill Haven faces Upper Dauphin, a 54-52 winner over Mount Calvary Christian, in Saturday’s championship game at 6:30 p.m.
