HS Boys’ Wrestling: Dawgs capture Gauntlet Wrestling Tournament

Owen Wolfgang, Tri-Valley

ORWIGSBURG — Owen Wolfgang (107), Garrett Leitzel (121), Kian Gill (133), Jaxson Bruso (139), Landon Horoschak (145) and Max Masser (189) earned 5-0 records to lead Tri-Valley to the championship Friday at the Gauntlet Wrestling Tournament at Blue Mountain High School.

Leitzel and Gill had four pins apiece for the Bulldogs. Bruso, Horoschak and Masser notched three falls apiece.

Tri-Valley swept its five duals, defeating Pleasant Valley (57-18), Sugar Valley (69-6), Blue Mountain (40-33), Allentown Central Catholic (72-4) and William Allen (69-6).

Jayce Hatter (114), Parker Hatter (160), Hunter Updegrave (172) and Donovan Keeth (285) went 4-1 on the day. Parker Hatter contributed four pins for the Dawgs (5-0).

Against Blue Mountain, Wolfgang, Leitzel, Gill, Bruso, Horoschak and Masser scored pins, and Updegrave added a major decision.

Despite the loss to the Dawgs, Blue Mountain placed second with a 4-1 record. The Eagles defeated Sugar Valley (60-17), William Allen (54-14), Pleasant Valley (54-11) and Allentown Central Catholie (68-6).

Caden Fenstermacher (114), Cooper Leibold (127), Bryce Bodenberg (145) and Owen Woll (160) went 5-0 on the day for Blue Mountain (5-1). Woll pinned all five of his opponents; Bodenberg had four pins. Jarrid Hilt (172) had a 3-0 reord.

Grayson Freed (107), Brian Brobst (133), Troy Mady (139) and Vaughn Helverson (285) posted 4-1 records in the Gauntlet.

Sugar Valley placed third, followed by Pleasant Valley in fourth, William Allen in fifth and Allentown Central Catholic in sixth.

SCHUYLKILL HAVEN — Jack Krammes (152) and Triston Davis (285) notched falls for Schuylkill Haven (1-1) in a non-league loss to Hamburg.

Girls’ Wrestling

2 capture titles at Tamaqua Invite

TAMAQUA — North Schuylkill’s Ka’ren-is Holmes (100/106) and Tamaqua’s Jalissa Correa (124) won gold medals at the Tamaqua Blue Raider Invitational.

In the finals, Holmes pinned Catasauqua’s Janetliz Burgos in 26 seconds. Correa scored a takedown in sudden-victory overtime to edge Lehighton’s Claudia Pagotto 7-4.

Lehighton won the nine-team event with 234 points. Catasauqua finished second with 176, followed by Hamburg with 114. North Schuylkill (81) placed fourth; Tamaqua and Col-Mon Vo-Tech tied for fifth,

Also for the Spartans, Maddy Fetterolf (100/106) finished third. Kaitlyn Sargeant (100/106), Brynn Miscannon (118), Avery Allred (130) and Josie Economy (190) placed fourth.

Rylin Arroyo (112) placed second and Addison Trunk (112) took fourth for the Blue Raiders.
