FOUNTAIN SPRINGS — To be named All-State in any sport is a great honor.

To be named All-State two years in a row? That’s pretty special.

North Schuylkill seniors Luke Miller and Aiden Zilker were put in that special class Tuesday when they were named to the Pennsylvania Football Writers’ Class 3A All-State Team for the second straight season.

Miller, a 6-foot, 185-pound running back/safety, was selected at Offensive Athlete. Zilker, a 6-5, 300-pound lineman, was chosen as an offensive lineman.

Miller and Zilker are part of a 42-player squad chosen through nominations and voting done by sports writers and broadcasters from across the state, including T102 Sports Now.

“Aiden and Luke were two of the more dominant players in the state at their positions,” North Schuylkill coach Wally Hall said. “They accomplished this playing verse one of the most competitive schedules in the state at (Class) 3A.”

Miller, who signed an NCAA Division I letter of intent Monday to run track at Saint Joseph’s University, rushed 229 times for 2,563 yards and a school-record 31 touchdowns this season for the Spartans, who finished 8-4 and reached the District 11 Class 3A semifinals before falling to eventual state runner-up Northwestern Lehigh.

Miller finished with a school-record 34 touchdowns overall, breaking his own school record. He had five games of four or more TDs, five games of 200 or more rushing yards and three games of 300 or more rushing yards. He rushed for a school-record 383 yards in an Oct. 9 win over Blue Mountain.

Miller was named the Schuylkill County Football Coaches Association Big School Offensive Player of the Year for the second straight season. He finished as North Schuylkill’s all-time leader in rushing yards (3,856) and rushing touchdowns (59).

Clearing holes for Miller to run through was Zilker, a road-grading offensive tackle who signed to play football at Temple University.

Zilker was a driving force behind North Schuylkill averaging 287.8 yards rushing per game and 393.8 total yards per game. His agility allowed coach Wally Hall to also use Zilker as a wingback or H-back on certain running plays.

Zilker was named the Schuylkill County Football Coaches Association Big School Offensive Lineman for the second straight year.

Both Miller (RB) and Zilker (OL) were named to the inaugural T102 Sports Now Tremendous 33 Team on Sunday.

The Pennsylvania Football Writers are unveiling their All-State teams in each of the six classifications over the next two days, three per day at specific times. The Class A team was unveiled at 8 a.m. today, with Tri-Valley’s Cole Gemberling and Marian’s Rory Dixon selected. The Class 5A team will be announced at noon.

Wednesday, the Class AA (8 a.m.), Class 4A (10 a.m.) and Class 6A (noon) teams will be announced.

Do-it-all star Luca Neal and head coach Duke Johncour of PIAA Class 3A champion Avonworth were named the Class 3A Player of the Year and Coach of the Year, respectively.

Other members of the Schuylkill-Colonial Cooperative that were named to the Class 3A All-State Team include Notre Dame-Green Pond QB Matt Bodnar, Palmerton offensive lineman Logan Anthony and six players from District 11 3A champ Northwestern Lehigh: quarterback Shane Leh, running back Braxton Lakatosh, wide receiver Brady Zimmerman, offensive lineman Colton Popp, linebacker Shane Hulmes and defensive back Michael Lagowy.
