’Twas the Night Before Schuylkill County Christmas: T102 Sports Now Edition

christmas-lights-over-pottsville-night-sky

’Twas the night before Christmas in Schuylkill County — oh man,
Not a whistle was sounding… till the T102 crew ran.

The Staff Page was glowing, the whole lineup in view —
From writers to board-ops, the village that covers you.

Leroy Boyer had notebooks stacked high like a wall,
With decades of bylines and big-game recall.

Bob Lipsky was typing with Penn State pride in his veins,
Dropping names, dropping nuggets, like snow over lanes.

And Eli Doyle —“The Kid” — multi-tool in the mix,
writer, producer, and voice when the moment needs clicks.

Then up in the booth came a familiar refrain —
Chaz and Ty hit the mics like a runaway train.

Chaz paints the picture, Ty brings the boom,
And Friday Night lights and turf fields turn into Martz Hall and big room.

Where every big run and every fourth-down call
Feels like the whole county’s standing tall.

On the sideline — same guy, two jobs, zero fear —
Ed Beneshunas was everywhere, loud and clear.

T102 sideline for football, WPPA hoops on the mic,
Plus Sports Saturday host — yeah, that’s his life.

With Joey Shemo, Mahanoy roots, always ready to talk,
And Eli right there as the county’s weekend clock.

Across the WPPA airwaves, the wise men took seat:
Matt Freiler and Del Hauck — history under their feet.
Del’s the encyclopedia, Matt’s the rhythm and drive,
And they make every Friday sound dangerously alive.

And when hoops heat up and the winter gets loud,
You said it — Ed Ben and Tim Coyle — they’ll work the crowd.

But hold up — behind all the “live from the booth!”
Were the studio heroes who keep it all smooth:
Scooter Stetzler spinning dials like a wizard at work,
And Mark Michales running ops—never missing a perk.

Plus the creatives, the visuals, the “make-it-look-right” team —
Because even a recap needs that Coal Region gleam.

And then — like sleigh bells — came the football parade,
Where legends get built and reputations get made.

Coach Justin Frantz cracked a joke on the sideline with flair,
Because Minersville’s funny… until you’re tackling Dante Carr.

Carr took off like Christmas lights — one blink and he’s free,
A county-star quarterback headed to UCF, you see.

Beside him a burner with track spikes in his soul —
Paiten LaPoint, hitting turbo the moment he rolls.

And up in Fountain Springs, where the Spartans run wild,
Luke Miller went full highlight — fastest grin of the child.

If you’ve never watched Luke hit the edge in the cold,
You don’t know the kind of “oh NO!” that a defense can hold.

Down in Haven, the Hurricanes loaded the sleigh —
Coach Mike Farr said, “We’re coming… just get outta the way.”

With a three-headed monster that never seems tame:
Niko Carestia, Colton Reber, Niko Castillo — three names, one game.

They churned out the yardage, they pounded the air,
And the stands yelled “HURRICANES!” like it carried a prayer.

But every good poem needs one “Vikings” twist —
And you know this ending (three years running) still stings a bit:
Because Ben Ancheff held steady when the pressure got thick,
Williams Valley stood tall when the big game got slick.

Now don’t forget the women — because this county’s got stars —
Not “future maybe,” not “someday” — they’ve been raising the bars.
Felicia Bro — Mahanoy Area — puts in work year-round,
From distance to hardwood, she’s the heartbeat of town.

And Quin Smeltz — yes, a kicker — Williams Valley’s cool hand,
Booting history into record books like she owned the land.

And Pine Grove’s Callee Leffler, Florida State bound, no doubt,
A superstar story the whole county can shout.

And you called it — Mya Conti — North Schuylkill hoops, one to watch,
A name for the list where the next era will notch.

Then the “stocking stuffer” section slid in with a grin —
Because winter’s coming and the gyms are about to begin.

Tri-Valley boys are a rolling, connected machine —
Trey Porter, Braeden Doyle, Cooper Carl in the scene,
Gavin Klock, Kingsley Johnson, Owen Miller too —
A group that plays fast like the Dawgs always do.

And Haven’s got more than just touchdowns this year—
Golfer Alan Evans took medals with no trace of fear.

And Pottsville’s got flight — straight up, not a pun —
Diver Adam Klinger, Seton Hall commit, getting records done.

And beyond the bright lights and the Friday night sound,
There are grinders and lifers who keep sports spinning round.

In Pottsville, the mats shook with strength and goodwill,
Led by Terrell McFarland, relentless of will.

And stripes deserve cheers — not boos — on this night,
For Joe Gerchak, 50 years getting calls only right.

From youth gyms to stadiums, rain, snow, or heat,
Half a century serving the games and the street.

Now —Touchdown Tips! — where the chaos gets crowned,
Where “locks” become losses, and the hot takes abound.

The panel rolled deep, yeah, the whole crew came alive:
Eli, Bob, Chaz, Del, Leroy — the “pros” who survive?

And the Misstishins — oh buddy — those two steal the show:
Jimmy the reigning champ, he’ll remind you, you know.

The King of Touchdown Tips with that record-book run,
“Downed King Eli,” he’ll laugh, like he’s already won.

And Jerry with “stats,” some… questionable… some cursed,
But he’ll swear they’re elite — right up until they’re the worst.

And last, like a legend who never stops clowning,
JP — John Powers — the jokester with decades of sounding.

Retired from color, but still in the air —
Because some voices just live in Schuylkill County care.

Plus, John Curvey on Goal Line, keeping postgame tight —
Turning the final whistle into Friday night.

But the season also paused — hats off, heads bowed low,
For the giants we lost that still run every show.

Kevin Keating, Pottsville football — toughness and pride,
Still pacing the sideline somewhere just outside.

Scott Murphy of Marian — passion, control,
Building young men through hoops, heart and soul.

And Joe Cesari, North Schuylkill wrestling lore,
Every takedown today still echoes his roar.

Their names aren’t forgotten, not carved just in stone —
They live in each whistle, each gym, each home.

Some stories feel warm like a hometown refrain,
Like Ned Hampford returning to Pottsville’s pool lane.

Back guiding the Tide, where the water runs deep,
Turning early alarms into banners to keep.

And Marian smiled when the news finally flew:
Paul Brutto is back — yeah, the bench feels brand new.

A familiar voice, clipboard steady in hand,
Restoring belief like only true locals can.

And steady at center when schedules get tight,
Stands Steve Toth, keeping order and balance just right.
Schuylkill League President — calm, fair, and true,
Making sure every school gets a clear, equal view.

So the county stayed cozy, but the sports world stayed bright,
With the T102 crew working late into the night —

And they whispered as snow fell and the headlines took flight:
“Merry Christmas, Schuylkill County… and to all a good NIGHT!”
