HS Hoops Roundup: Tri-Valley boys, Williams Valley girls, Pine Grove girls capture tourney titles

MILLERSBURG — 85.7 points per game.
That’s the scoring average for the Tri-Valley boys’ basketball team over its last three games.
The Dawgs continued to scorch the nets Monday, cruising to an 82-35 victory over Williams Valley in the championship game of the WQLV Tournament at Millersburg.
Kingsley Johnson paced a quartet of double-digit scorers with 18 points, draining five 3-pointers. Gavin Klock added 17 points, Trey Porter tallied 15 and Braeden Doyle netted 11 as Tri-Valley used a 28-point second quarter to take a 44-11 halftime lead.
It was the fifth time in 10 games that Tri-Valley (9-1) scored more than 80 points. In a span of eight days, the Dawgs put up 87 points against Pine Grove, 88 against Upper Dauphin and 82 versus Williams Valley. For the season, Tri-Valley is averaging 74.8 points per game.

PINE GROVE — Josiah Urbaez scored nine of his game-high 20 points in a 16-4, second-quarter run to lift the Panthers past the Cardinals in the championship game of the Cardinal Classic.
Dane Hannevig scored a team-high 10 points for Pine Grove, all of which came in the first quarter. The Cards trailed just 21-19 after one frame before Schuylkill Valley pulled away in the second period.

MAHANOY CITY — Connor Bowman scored 11 of his 16 points in the first quarter as the Golden Bears routed the Blue Devils in a non-league contest.
Ryan Zilker led all scorers with 20 points for Mahanoy Area, which led 28-7 after one quarter and 42-14 at halftime. Cam Smith added 13 points for the Bears.
Lopez led Shenandoah Valley with 15 points, while David Burrous added 10.

MILLERSBURG — Quin Smeltz scored a game-high 13 points and Mallory Miller added 12 as the Vikings captured their third straight WQLV Tournament championship.
Miller scored eight of her points in the first half as Williams Valley built a 23-11 halftime lead. Smeltz scored all 13 of her points in the second half as the Vikes earned their fourth straight victory.

MILLERSBURG — Avery Miller and Ava Snyder each recorded double-doubles as the Dawgs came up just short in the consolation game of the WQLV Tournament to the host Indians.
Miller had a game-high 20 points and 10 rebounds, while Miller compiled 10 points and 16 rebounds.

PINE GROVE — Lainey Fidler drained six 3-pointers and scored a game-high 18 points as the Cardinals edged ELCO to capture the championship of the Cardinal Classic.
Pine Grove trailed 24-20 before Fidler caught fire, hitting five 3-pointers in the third quarter to put the Cards up 38-35 after three frames. The Cardinals then held on, with Kam Heming scoring four key points down the stretch.

Spartans, Red Raiders suffer 1st losses
The Schuylkill League’s last two unbeaten girls’ basketball teams both suffered their first losses Monday in non-league action.
North Schuylkill fell to 6-1 with a 51-32 loss to Downingtown West as part of the State College Holiday Tournament.
Lourdes also dropped to 6-1 with a 38-36 loss to Shikellamy (4-4) in a non-league game.
No details from either game were available.
