HS Girls’ Wrestling: Panthers’ Banks wins Coal Cracker gold

JIM THORPE — Panther Valley’s Brenda Banks added another gold medal to her collection with another dominant performance Friday and Saturday at the Coal Cracker Invitational Girls’ Wrestling Tournament at Jim Thorpe Area High School.

Banks, a senior three-time state champion, went 5-0 with five falls to capture the 235-pound title. Banks had pins in 12, 20, 57 and 25 seconds. In the finals, Banks decked Hazleton Area’s Evelyn Sheer in 1:18.

Banks improved to 22-0 on the season and 95-2 in her career.

Fifty-eight teams competed in the event. Northern York won the team title with 140.5 points. Athens and Quakertown tied for second with 128.5. Lehighton (128) and Hughesville (126.5) rounded out the top five. Upper Dauphin placed seventh, and Panther Valley finished 17th. Tamaqua also wrestled at the event.

The Panthers had two other placewinners. Alisa Williams (170) placed fourth, and Anelia Bennick (155) took seventh.

Upper Dauphin, which has a c0-op with Tri-Valley, compiled six placewinners.

Chloe Ratcliffe (190) placed second with four falls en route to the finals. There, Ratcliffe (13-2) got pinned by Quakertown’s Caroline Hattala in 38 seconds.

Jacelyn Henninger (142) went 7-1 with six pins to place third. Maggie Hoffman-Long (142), Kristen Rosado (148) and Lydia Engle (190) finished seventh, while Jada Dillard (124) took eighth. Hoffman-Long went 5-2 with five pins.

Spartans go 3-0 at quad

MOUNT CARMEL — Kaitlyn Sargeant (100), Cora Ortiz (112), Riley Price (118), Brynn Miscannon (124) and Phoebe Smith (130) had 3-0 days to lead North Schuylkill to a sweep Saturday at the Mount Carmel Quad Meet.

The Spartans (6-1) defeated Mount Carmel (47-12), Shamokin (42-21) and Southern Columbia (36-30).

Madison Fetterolf (106) and Josie Economy (190) both went 2-1 for North Schuylkill.

Cards place 3 at Lebanon

LEBANON — Autumn Martin (118), Geanna Lemke (142) and Audrey Graeff (235) earned medals Sunday to lead Pine Grove to a seventh-place finish at the 3rd Annual Lebanon Girls’ Wrestling Tournament. Martin and Lemke finished third, and Graeff placed fourth.

Cumberland Valley won the team title of the 28-team event with 170.5 points. Upper Perkiomen finished second with 143.5, and Upper Merion took third with 105. Red Land (99) and ELCO (92.5) completed the top five. Northern Lebanon placed sixth with 91.5, and Pine Grove finished seventh with 85.

Martin went 5-1 with five falls. She pinned Upper Perkiomen’s Alexandra Cannon in 2:29 for her bronze. In another third-place bout, Lemke stuck Cedar Crest’s Madelyn Shanfelder in 1:40. Lemke (20-2) went 5-1 with four pins and one medical forfeit victory.

Graeff took fourth after she got pinned by Cumberland Valley’s Abbey Hollenbach in 1:36 during the consolation finals.

Pottsville and Nativity also competed in the event.
