HS Baseball Roundup: Hurricanes weather storm; Golden Bears break loose

Schuylkill Haven answers late, Mahanoy Area piles up runs; Tamaqua, Weatherly fall
KUTZTOWN — Schuylkill Haven built a cushion, then had to survive a late scare to finish it off.
The Hurricanes built an early lead and held off a late rally to defeat Kutztown 9-7 in eight innings during a non-league baseball game Monday on the road.
Schuylkill Haven broke things open with a five-run fourth inning, highlighted by a three-run triple from Chase Yoder, to take control.
Kutztown battled back to tie the game in the seventh, but Schuylkill Haven answered in the eighth with two runs to regain the lead.
Yoder led the Hurricanes with three RBIs, while Wyatt Gerber, Chase Maley and Bradyn Diehl each added a hit. Maley earned the win in relief.

BLOOMSBURG — Mike Gambone and Colby Wagner led the way as Mahanoy Area erupted late and rolled past Columbia-Montour Vo-Tech in a non-league ballgame.
The Golden Bears piled up 16 hits, with Mike Gambone and Colby Wagner collecting three apiece. Jordany Oviedo drove in four runs, while Ryan Zilker and Derek Alvarado added multiple hits.
Mahanoy Area broke the game open with 11 runs in the seventh inning after building a steady lead through the early frames. Isaiah Rios earned the win, tossing six scoreless innings, while Gavin Price finished off the shutout in relief.

BRODHEADSVILLE — Pleasant Valley used a rally through the middle innings to pull away from Tamaqua in a non-league contest.
The Blue Raiders struck first in the opening inning, but the Bears answered in the third and broke the game open with three runs in the fourth and three more in the fifth.
Jake Yenser and Gavin Edmonds each collected two hits for Tamaqua, while Yenser and Logan Morgans drove in runs.

The Wreckers built a 6-5 lead in the top of the sixth before the Lions answered in the bottom half, highlighted by a two-run double to take control.
Jameson DeLauretis led Weatherly with two hits, while Jeremiah Donadi, DeLauretis and Bradlee Connors each recorded a hit.
