HS Baseball: Dawgs erupt for 17 hits in win over Cardinals

Braeden Doyle, Tri-Valley baseball
HEGINS — The hits just kept on coming.
Tri-Valley erupted for 17 hits and built a big early lead before holding off Pine Grove 13-6 in a Schuylkill League Division I baseball game Tuesday at Edwin H. Ziegler Field.
The Dawgs wasted little time getting going. Jason Stewart launched a two-run homer in the first inning to set the tone, and Tri-Valley followed with two more runs in the second RBI singles from Gavin Scheib Braeden Doyle.
By the third inning, the Dawgs were in full control. A sacrifice bunt, a two-run triple by Scheib and an RBI single from Jack Wehry helped extend the lead as Tri-Valley pushed ahead with another multi-run frame.
Pine Grove showed fight in the middle innings. The Cardinals chipped away with a three-run fifth and added more in the sixth, highlighted by a strong day at the plate from Dane Hannevig, who finished with three hits and three RBIs.
But every time Pine Grove threatened, Tri-Valley had an answer. The Dawgs added insurance runs in both the fourth and sixth innings to keep the Cardinals at arm’s length and maintain control of the game.
Braeden Doyle earned the win on the mound, going 5.2 innings while allowing six runs (five earned) on nine hits and striking out seven. Peyton Schley came on in relief and shut the door, tossing 1.1 scoreless innings with four strikeouts.

At the plate, Tri-Valley’s lineup was balanced and relentless. Doyle, Gavin Klock, Jaxon Bruso and Wehry each collected three hits, while Scheib added two hits and drove in three runs. Stewart and Klock each knocked in a pair as part of the 13-run effort.
Pine Grove finished with nine hits, with Hannevig leading the way, while Ian Brown added two hits. Despite the offensive production, the Cardinals couldn’t overcome Tri-Valley’s early surge and consistent pressure throughout.
