HS Baseball Roundup: Vikings rally late, Tamaqua breaks through, Wehr dominates in shutout

MAHANOY CITY — Williams Valley answered every challenge and delivered late.

The Vikings jumped out early with two runs in the first and two more in the second and went on to defeat Mahanoy Area 7-5 in Schuylkill League Division II baseball game Friday at Mahanoy Area.

Mahanoy Area battled back to tie the game and eventually take the lead in the fifth.

But Williams Valley responded again, reclaiming the lead in the sixth on an RBI single from Cayden Witmer before adding an insurance run in the seventh to secure the win.

Witmer led the way with two hits and three RBIs, while John Rautzahn had two hits.

Mahanoy Area finished with nine hits, with Colby Wagner and Damien Contreras collecting two apiece in the loss.

Tamaqua 12, Minersville 7

TAMAQUA — Jake Yenser led the charge as Tamaqua rallied past Minersville in a high-scoring non-league contest.

The Blue Raiders fell behind early before responding with a six-run fifth inning to flip the game and take control, earning the Raiders first win of the season.

Minersville struck for three runs in the third and added on late, but couldn’t keep pace after Tamaqua’s big middle innings surge.

Yenser finished with two hits, while Gavan Hess also had two. Landon Kamant drove in three runs for Tamaqua.

Minersville was led by multi-hit efforts from Camden Rogers and Garrett Sukeena.

Panther Valley 7, Nativity 0

POTTSVILLE — Danny Wehr dominated on the mound as Panther Valley blanked Nativity in a non-league matchup.

The Panthers scored early and added on with a four-run fourth inning to take full control.

Wehr was outstanding, tossing a complete-game shutout while striking out 15 and allowing just two hits.

Brody Breiner, Wehr and Carson Jones each had two hits for Panther Valley, while Jones drove in a pair.

Nick Clarke and Brady Loftus recorded the lone hits for Nativity.
