Blue Mountain takes Division I title; Haven tops Mahanoy Area in Division II showdown

Two Schuylkill League boys’ dual-meet champions were crowned Tuesday as Blue Mountain and Schuylkill Haven captured their respective division titles with victories.

The Eagles wrapped up the Division I title with a 107-42 win over Tamaqua to stay unbeaten at 4-0 in league play. Blue Mountain has already defeated second-place teams Pottsville (3-1) and North Schuylkill (3-1) heading into next week’s final round of dual meets.

The Hurricanes secured the Division II title with a 90-51 victory over Mahanoy Area in a battle of unbeatens at Rotary Field. The win keeps Schuylkill Haven unbeaten in Division II play at 5-0, with two of those victories coming over second-place teams Mahanoy Area (4-1) and Nativity (4-1).

Blue Mountain 107, Tamaqua 42

ORWIGSBURG — Rafael Liranzo won three events as the Eagles soared past the Blue Raiders to capture the Schuylkill League Division I crown.

Liranzo swept the hurdles and won the high jump for Blue Mountain (4-1, 4-0 D-I). Chase Guers added wins in the 100 and triple jump as the Eagles won 14 of 18 events.

Brody Foose (200), Francesco Carr (400), Brody Moyer (800), Kurt Krammes (shot put), Caleb Baldwin (discus), William Shaner (javelin) and Noah Lechleitner (pole vault) notched wins for Blue Mountain.

Aidan Elston (1600), Parker Steencken (3200) and Terrence McDowell (long jump) claimed individual wins for Tamaqua (1-3, 1-3).

Schuylkill Haven 90, Mahanoy Area 51

SCHUYLKILL HAVEN — Niko Carestia, Daniel Fanelli and Ethan Kline each won two individual events as the Hurricanes captured the Schuylkill League Division II title with a win over the Golden Bears at Rotary Field.

Carestia raced to a win in the 100 and took first in the javelin. Fanelli captured the long and triple jumps while Kline continued his dominance of the shot put and discus. Logan Goad (200), Colton McClusky (1600) and Brody Walchak (300 hurdles) added wins.

Pottsville 111, Pine Grove 29

PINE GROVE — Shay Strencosky and Donovann Durham each won a pair of events and ran on a winning relay as the Crimson Tide rolled past the Cardinals in a Schuylkill League Division I meet at Cardinal Stadium.

Strencosky blazed to wins in the 100 and 200, while Durham swept the hurdles.

Ty Karkanica (400), Colin McGinley (1600), Jamie McClure (triple jump), Christian Artz (shot put), Ryan Murphy (discus) and Peter Scharadin (javelin) added wins for the Tide, who swept the relays.

Dru Herber (800, 3200) won twice for Pine Grove (1-4, 0-4), while Terrin Witmer took first in the high jump and Grayling Kimmel leaped to a win in the long jump.

Nativity notches pair of wins in Division II quad meet

POTTSVILLE — Shane Meyer won three individual events and ran on a winning relay as Nativity captured a pair of victories in a quad meet with Panther Valley, Marian and Weatherly at Pottsville’s Veterans Memorial Stadium.

Robert McDonald (100), Jacob Williams (200), Kyle McCormick (400) and Aiden Becker (javelin) won events for the Green Wave (4-1, 4-1 D-II), who defeated Panther Valley 113-27 and Marian 111-29.

Marian (3-2, 3-2) downed Panther Valley 80-51 as Jacob Tom took first in the long jump and triple jump and Tyler Price won the high jump.

Panther Valley (1-5, 1-4) topped Weatherly 74-46 as Dominic Pena swept the hurdles and Gino Williams won the shot put and discus.

Weatherly concludes its dual-meet season at 0-6.

FOUNTAIN SPRINGS — Luke Miller won a pair of races and the Spartans used a big effort in the field events to edge the Miners in a Schuylkill League Division I contest at Ghosh Orthodontics Field at Spartan Stadium.

Miller won the 200 and 400 and was the only double-winner for North Schuylkill (4-1, 3-1 D-I), while Daniel Brake (100) and Sean Dacus (3200) added wins on the track.

North Schuylkill outscored Minersville 37-22 in the field as Xavier McNally (high jump), Tanner McGee (long jump), Gavin Wall (shot put), David Martinez (discus) and Chase Heller (javelin) picked up wins.

Johnny Burgess (800, 1600) and Chase Zimerofsky (300 hurdles, triple jump) each won twice for Minersville (2-3, 1-3).
