HS Baseball Roundup: Allen, Stewart, Evans power big day across Schuylkill League diamonds

Andrew Allen, Pottsville baseball
Marian, Nativity, Pine Grove roll; Blue Mountain tosses combined no-no in non-league competition
FOUNTAIN SPRINGS — Andrew Allen set the tone from the bottom of the lineup and Pottsville did the rest behind a late surge.
Allen collected three hits as Pottsville rolled to a 9-1 win over North Schuylkill in a Schuylkill League Division I baseball game Monday at Robert Wetzel Field, breaking it open with a big seventh inning.
The Crimson Tide got going early, plating two runs in the second inning when Allen singled and Gabriel Indell followed with a sacrifice bunt to bring home another. Pottsville added on in the fourth behind more timely hitting, with Allen again in the middle of it, while Christian Alvarez and Max Clews chipped in key contributions to keep the pressure on.
The game remained within reach until the seventh, when Pottsville erupted for five runs. Brody Hess, Harrison Ciavarella and Allen each drew bases-loaded walks to force in runs, and Alvarez capped the inning with a two-run single to put the game out of reach.
Allen finished 3-for-3, while Clews added two hits and Alvarez drove in two runs. Dom Rynard earned the win, working 5.1 innings while allowing just four hits and one unearned run, striking out nine. Clews came on in relief to help close things out.
North Schuylkill managed four hits, with Chase Slotcavage collecting two and Hunter Rogers and Landen Smith adding hits. The Spartans’ lone run came earlier in the game on an RBI-groundout by Seth Hubler.
Pottsville and North Schuylkill are still alive in Schuylkill League Tournament contention as the top three teams from each division advance. The Crimson Tide have league matchups remaining with Blue Mountain and Tri-Valley, needing one win to clinch. As the Crimson Tide and Spartans split league contests, there would be a tiebreaker for the last spot if Pottsville drops both of its remaining league games.
The Eagles and Dawgs have both clinched berths into the league tournament, although no seeds are decided yet in either division. In Division II, Marian, Schuylkill Haven and Williams Valley have clinched berths and are vying for seeding supremacy.
