WHITEHALL — For some unknown reason, District 11 doesn’t award team trophies at its track and field championships.
If it did, the Minersville girls would have brought one home Wednesday.
The Miners continued their dominance of the Class AA meet on Day 2 of the District 11 Track and Field Championships at Whitehall’s Zephyr Complex, winning four more gold medals and finishing as the Class AA team champions with 129 points, 44 more than both Allentown Central Catholic and Pen Argyl.
Marley Zimmerman won both the 800 and 1600, Maggie Hoffman-Long took top honors in the triple jump and Avery Miller claimed the shot put as Minersville won seven more medals Wednesday.
In the two-day competition, the Miners garnered 18 top-four medals, including six golds, two each by Zimmerman, Hoffman-Long and Miller.
In addition to the four golds Wednesday, Minersville was third in both the 4×100 relay and 4×400 relay and Arianna John took third in the shot put.
“The girls’ killed it,” Minersville coach Jason Burgess said via text message.

The Miners weren’t the only Schuylkill League girls to “kill it” at districts.
Pottsville senior Alexa Giuffre claimed her second district gold by winning the Class 3A long jump with a top jump of 18 feet, 7 inches.
Giuffre was also second in the 100 hurdles Wednesday, giving her four top-two medals over the two-day competition and qualifying her for states in four events. She won the triple jump and was second in the 300 hurdles Tuesday.
Giuffre ran a season-best 15.16 in the 100 hurdles. East Stroudsburg South’s Kimora Woods won the event in 14.72.
Giuffre is the only Schuylkill League girl athlete to qualify for states in Class 3A.

Zimmerman won the 800 in 2:25.26 and the 1600 in 5:22.07. Schuylkill Haven’s Faith Krammes earned a trip to states by placing second in the 800 in 2:26.72.
After winning the long jump Tuesday, Hoffman-Long captured the triple jump Wednesday with a best jump of 37-1. Schuylkill Haven’s Bella Murphy was fourth at 33-7.
Miller paced a Schuylkill League sweep of the podium in the shot put, winning gold with a top throw of 35-4.75. Pine Grove’s Rieleigh Purcell qualified for states by placing second at 34-2.75, while Minersville’s John was third (32-5.25) and Nativity’s Emmalee Pinkey (31-5.75) took fourth.
Minersville’s two relays both posted season-best times in grabbing bronze medals. The foursome of Ayla Allvord, Allie Pennypacker, Ivy Sankus and Hoffman-Long was third in the 4×100 in 51.64. In the 4×400, Allvord, Sankus, Jenna Cullen and Pennypacker took third in 4:13.02.
Pine Grove was fourth in the 4×100, while Schuylkill Haven was fourth in the 4×400.
