PIAA Track: Early Update, Guers top seed for 3A 100 finals

SHIPPENSBURG — Blue Mountain’s Chase Guers posted the top time in Friday morning’s Class 3A boys’ 100-meter preliminaries at the PIAA Track and Field Championships at Shippensburg University.
Guers ran 10.52 in the morning prelims and will start in the middle for Saturday’s finals. He was the only Schuylkill League athlete to advance to the finals in Friday’s morning session, which featured races in the 100 and 100/110 hurdles.
Pottsville’s Alexa Giuffre had a strong showing in the girls’ Class 3A 100 hurdles, breaking her own school record with a time of 14.90 seconds to finish 10th. Giuffre entered the event seeded 25th.
Minersville’s Maggie Hoffman-Long (AA long jump) and Pottsville’s Giuffre (3A triple jump) are among the local athletes competing this afternoon.
