3 Blue Mountain teams, 2 from Tamaqua set to compete

Three Blue Mountain Little League all-star squads and two from Tamaqua will look to earn berths in their respective Pennsylvania State Little League Baseball tournaments when they compete in the Section 6 play over the next week.

All three Section 6 Little League tournaments feature three teams — the champions from District 18, District 20 and District 24. All three brackets will have a round-robin format, with the top two teams based on record and Little League International pool-play tiebreaker guidelines advancing to a one-game playoff for the championship.

Here’s a quick breakdown, with official pairings listed below:

** The Section 6 Little League 9-11-year-old Tournament begins tonight, running from Tuesday, July 14, through Friday, July 17, and is hosted by the Tamaqua Little League at Bill Angst Stadium at Dutch Hill. Blue Mountain (District 24), Southern Lehigh (District 20) and host Tamaqua (District 18) will compete in this field.

** The Section 6 Little League 8-10-year-old Tournament begins Saturday, July 18, and runs through Tuesday, July 21, and is hosted by the Lehigh Little League. Stroudsburg (District 18), Blue Mountain (District 24) and host Lehigh (District 20) will compete in this field.

For Blue Mountain fans traveling to these games, take the Schoenersville Road exit off Route 22 in Bethlehem. The field complex is located on the left, just before you reach Moravian University, on Illick’s Mill Road. GPS address is 1175 Illick’s Mill Road, Bethlehem.

** The Section 6 Little League Major Division (10-12) Tournament begins Saturday, July 18, and runs through Tuesday, July 21, and is hosted by the Blue Mountain Little League at Memorial Field in Orwigsburg. Tamaqua (District 18), Lehigh (District 20) and host Blue Mountain (District 24) will compete in this field.

Blue Mountain won the District 24 Major Division crown with an 18-0 victory over Ashland in Sunday’s championship game in Ashland. The title was the third D-24 Major banner in five years for Blue Mountain (6-1), with this group competing in the Section 3 11-year-old tourney last year.

Tamaqua won its first District 18 championship since 2012 by defeating Jim Thorpe 6-1 in the title game Wednesday. Tamaqua (5-1) overcame an early defeat to storm through the losers’ bracket, beating Jim Thorpe twice for the title. This group of Tamaqua all-stars also won District 18 titles as 10-year-olds and 11-year-olds.

Lehigh Little League won the District 20 title for the first time since 2021 by beating Southern Lehigh 10-4 in its final. Lehigh went unbeaten in the District 20 tourney, going 4-0.
