Schuylkill Haven stays unbeaten with convincing win at SCC

BARNESVILLE — Two big wins on back-to-back days has Schuylkill Haven in the driver’s seat to win a fourth straight Schuylkill League Division II golf title.

The Hurricanes improved to 5-0 with a convincing 310-354 victory over Marian on Thursday at Schuylkill Country Club. The win, coupled with Haven’s triumph over Marian on Wednesday at White Birch, gives the Hurricanes a season sweep of the Colts and a two-match lead over three teams in a tight Division II race with roughly half of the regular season complete.

Eli Barton paced a balanced Schuylkill Haven effort Thursday with a 1-over-par 73, one day after shooting an even-par 69 at White Birch. Alan Evans added a 76, Giuliana Hughes carded an 80 and Chase Maley had an 81 for the Hurricanes (5-0, 5-0 D-II).

Carter Grant led Marian (4-2, 3-2) with an 81.

In other action Thursday, Connor Bowman and Cam Chilinskas each shot 78 as Mahanoy Area prevailed in a quad meet with North Schuylkill, Minersville and Pine Grove at White Birch Golf Course.

The Golden Bears finished with 332, North Schuylkill totaled 334, Minersville tallied 337 and Pine Grove scored 353. North Schuylkill’s Jace Jackson earned medalist honors with a 74, while Minersville was led by Garrett Sukeena’s 75 and Emma Troutman’s 77. Mason Troutman was the low scorer for Pine Grove with an 82.

In another non-league contest, Vivian Reiprish carded an 81 as Lourdes defeated Nativity 364-376. Stephen Karinch recorded an 85 for Nativity.

The Schuylkill League Division I match between Blue Mountain and Tamaqua was postponed.
