Brenda Banks, Panther Valley

DOYLESTOWN — Panther Valley’s Brenda Banks reached yet another milestone Saturday at the Battle for the Buck Girls’ Varsity Wrestling Tournament at Central Bucks West High School.

Banks, a senior 235-pounder and three-time state champion, scored three victories to capture her weight class. In the process, she recorded the 100th victory of her career. She’s the first Schuylkill League girls’ wrestler to reach the century mark.

Banks improved her record to 27-0 this season and 100-2 for her career.

To reach the finals, Banks posted falls of 20 and 18 seconds. In the gold-medal bout, Banks decked Council Rock South’s Makenzie O’Donnell in 57 seconds. For her efforts, Banks received the Outstanding Wrestler Award.

Panther Valley senior teammate Alisa Williams struck gold at 170 pounds. In the finals, Williams (26-4) shut out Harry S Truman’s Jada Akins 6-0.

Anelia Bennick (155) placed fifth, and Ashley Williams (148) took eighth for the Panthers.

Panther Valley finished 13th in the 32-team field. Neshaminy won the team title with 153.5 points. Owen J. Roberts placed second with 130.5, and Upper Merion finished third with 125.

Cards place 3 at invite

WEXFORD — Geanna Lemke (142) placed third to lead Pine Grove at the North Allegheny Invitational Girls’ Wrestling Tournament.

Lemke reached the semifinals before dropping into the consolations. She rebounded with two victories, including an 8-2 decision over Dallastown’s Avery Baldwin in the bronze-medal bout.

Kiersen Echternach placed seventh at 100, and Rieleigh Purcell finished eighth at 190. Echternach pinned Dallastown’s Sophia Winey in 3:23 in the placing rounds; Purcell got pinned by Reynolds’ Raegan Bees in 2:14.

Pine Grove placed 18th in the 36-team field. Cumberland Valley won the team title with 187,5 points. Dallastown (169) finished second, and North Allegheny (123) placed third.

UDA wins home tourney

ELIZABETHILLE — Cambrie Herb (100), Jada Dillard (124) and Maggie Hoffman-Long (142) captured individual championships to lead Upper Dauphin to the team title at the UDA Lady Trojan Invitational on Sunday at Upper Dauphin Area High School.

The Trojans finished with nine placewinners and 183.5 points to top the 18-team field. Easton finished second with 141 points, and Lehighton took third with 127.5.

In the finals, Herb pinned Northern Lebanon’s Sophia Opaza in 4:42; Dillard pinned Bermudian Springs’ Leila Light in 3:04; and Hoffman-Long beat Reading’s Marielys Rosario 12-3. Both Herb and Dillard went 3-0 with three falls on the day.

Chloe Ratcliffe (190) and Grace Eure (235) placed second for Upper Dauphin. Jacelyn Henninger (136) took third; Jenna Teeter (118) and Isabella Latshaw (155) placed fifth; and Layla Smith (112) finished sixth.

Upper Dauphin next will compete in the 1st District 3 Girls’ Team Wrestling Tournament. The sixth-seeded Trojans (7-0) will face No. 11 Chambersburg (20-5) at 6 p.m. Wednesday at Gettysburg High School. On an adjacent mat, No. 3 Gettysburg (14-1) will take on No. 14 Cedar Crest (9-4). Those winners will square off in the quarterfinals at 7:30 p.m.

The semifinals and finals will be Saturday at Gettysburg High School, with action starting at 11 a.m.
