HS Girls’ Wrestling: Weather impacts time schedule for regionals
QUAKERTOWN — Due to inclement weather in the forecast, in coordination with the PIAA and Quakertown High School, the schedule for the Southeast Regional Girls’ Wrestling Championships has been changed, tournament director Matt Spengler announced Friday morning.
The tournament was scheduled to begin at noon Sunday, but the start time has been moved up to 8:30 a.m. (weigh-ins at 7:30 a.m.) on Sunday at Quakertown. That’s when the championship quarterfinals will begin, followed by the championship semifinals and consolation quarterfinals at 9:30 a.m., the consolation semifinals at 10:30 a.m. and the fifth-place consolations at 11:15 a.m. After a short break, the championship finals and third-place bouts will be held on two mats beginning at 12:30 p.m.
This regional has eight-wrestler brackets in each of the 13 weight classes, consisting of the top three from District 11 and the top five from District 1. The top four placewinners in each weight class will advance to the PIAA Wrestling Championships on March 5-7 at the Giant Center in Hershey.
Panther Valley’s Alisa Williams (170) and Brenda Banks (235) and Pine Grove’s Geanna Lemke (142), Rieleigh Purcell (190) and Audrey Graeff (235) are scheduled to compete. Banks is the No. 1 seed in her weight class.
The District 11 Class 3A and Class AA tournaments are on as scheduled Friday and Saturday at Bethlehem Liberty and Bethlehem Freedom high schools. Please visit t102sportsnow.com throughout the weekend for updates on all three tournaments.
