BIRDSBORO — Dom Rynard started the rally Pottsville needed in extra innings.
The Crimson Tide opened the season with a 4-3 extra-inning victory over Daniel Boone in a non-league game Saturday at Daniel Boone High School.
Rynard helped lead the way on both sides of the ball. The junior allowed just one hit over five scoreless innings with seven strikeouts, then tripled to deep center field in the eighth inning and scored the go-ahead run on a single by fellow junior Max Clews.
Pottsville built a 3-0 lead in the fifth inning when Harrison Ciavarella ripped a two-run triple and Christian Alvarez followed with a safety squeeze to bring home another run.
Daniel Boone rallied for three runs in the seventh to tie the game before the Tide responded in the eighth.
Sophomore Landon Trout sealed the win by striking out two in a hitless bottom of the eighth inning. Pottsville finished with six hits while Daniel Boone collected four.
Brody Hess led the Crimson Tide offense, going 2-for-2 with two walks and a run scored.
