SHAMOKIN — Mahanoy Area showed fight late, but an early surge by Shamokin proved too much to overcome.
Shamokin pulled away for an 11-6 win over the Golden Bears in a non-league baseball game Wednesday on the road at Shamokin, using big innings in the second and third to build a cushion and maintain control.
Mahanoy Area was limited early as the Indians capitalized on walks and timely hits, scoring four runs in the second and adding two more in the third to grab momentum. Landon Kramer delivered a key RBI single in the rally, while the Indians continued to pressure with patient at-bats and aggressive baserunning.
Mahanoy Area chipped away as the game progressed, getting multi-hit efforts from Jordany Oviedo and Joe Rick, who each collected two hits and drove in runs. Derek Alvarado and Colby Wagner also added hits as the Bears finished with seven, and the offense showed life with runs in the middle and late innings.
Shamokin answered whenever needed, adding insurance runs in the middle frames and again late, highlighted by a solo home run from Cash Primerano and a steady offensive output that produced 11 hits.
Isaiah Rios took the loss for Mahanoy Area, working into the fourth inning, while Brayden Olshefski earned the win for Shamokin. Despite the loss, the Bears played clean defensively and continued to battle throughout but couldn’t fully recover from the early deficit.
