HS Boys’ Track: Hurricanes, Eagles cap perfect regular seasons with wins

North Schuylkill, Tamaqua, Nativity also post boys’ track victories

 

SCHUYLKILL HAVEN — Freshman Brody Walchak swept the hurdles and ran on two winning relays as Schuylkill Haven capped a perfect Schuylkill League Division II boys’ track and field regular season with 93-48 win over Marian on Tuesday at Rotary Field.

Niko Carestia (100, javelin) and Ethan Kline (shot put, discus) also won two individual events for Schuylkill Haven (6-0, 6-0 D-II), while Logan Goad (200), Colton Reber (400), Dean Ketner (3200) and Joel Adams (high jump) added wins.

Jacob Tom took first in the long jump and triple jump to lead Marian (3-3, 3-3).

Blue Mountain 93, Minersville 57

MINERSVILLE — Chase Guers, Grayson Meck, Rafael Liranzo and Kurt Krammes each won a pair of events as the Eagles cruised past the Miners to finish unbeaten in Schuylkill League Division I play.

Guers raced to wins in the 100 and 200; Meck outpaced the field to win the 1600 and 3200; Liranzo swept the hurdles; and Krammes won the shot put and discus for Blue Mountain (5-0, 5-0 D-I). Tyler Buchman (800), William Shaner (javelin) and Dalton Minnick added wins, with Minnick clearing a season-best 13 feet in the pole vault.

Chase Zimerofsky won the long and triple jumps for Minersville (1-4, 1-4), which swept the relays. State champion Paiten Lapoint returned to the Miners’ lineup, winning the 400.

North Schuylkill 78, Pottsville 72

POTTSVILLE — The Spartans used sweep of the 100 meters and high jump to edge the Crimson Tide in a Schuylkill League Division I meet at Veterans Memorial Stadium.

Daniel Brake, Cameron Kacilowicz and Jaxon Sweeney went 1-2-3 in the 100, while Xavier McNally set a new area best in the jump by clearing 6 feet, 3 inches.

Luke Miller (200), Kacilowicz (400), Owen Mentzer (1600), Sean Dacus (3200), Sweeney (long jump), Blake Hawranick (triple jump) and Gavin Wall (shot put) added victories for North Schuylkill (5-1, 4-1 D-I), which won 10 of 18 events.

Donovann Durham was a double-winner for Pottsville (3-2, 3-2), sweeping the hurdles. Colin McGinley (800), Ryan Murphy (discus), Pete Scharadin (javelin) and Killian Bressler (pole vault) were also victorious for the Crimson Tide.

McDonald won the 200 and 400; Meyer placed first in the 800 and 1600; and Palerino won the shot put and discus as Nativity (5-1, 5-1 D-II) won 13 of 17 events.
