District 24 Little League: Ashland 12s, Pottsville 10s reach championship game

The Pottsville 8-10-year-old all-stars advanced to Sunday's District 24 Little League championship game with a 7-5 victory over Schuylkill Haven in Thursday's semifinals
The Ashland Major Division all-stars and the Pottsville 8-10-year-old stars advanced to their respective championship games of the District 24 Little League Tournament with victories in Thursday’s semifinals.
Ashland continued its dominance of the Major Division with a 4-1 victory over Upper Schuylkill at Eureka Park. In five games so far, top-seeded Ashland (5-0) has outscored its opponents 24-4 with a pair of shutouts.
Pottsville, meanwhile, outlasted Schuylkill Haven 7-5 in an 8-10-year-old semifinal at Railway Park. The unbeaten city stars have been potent at the plate, averaging 11.6 runs per game in their five victories so far.
The other two semifinals, which were paired as a doubleheader at Cressona, were postponed by rain and thunderstorms. They will be made up Saturday afternoon, with the 8-10-year-old semifinal game between Minersville and Blue Mountain at 1 p.m., followed by the Major Division semifinal between Tri-Valley and Blue Mountain at 3:30 p.m.
The championship games for both divisions will be held Sunday. The 8-10-year-old final will be at 1 p.m. If Minersville wins Saturday, the title game will be at Railway Park. If Blue Mountain wins, it will be played at Cressona.
The Major Division championship will be at 6 p.m. at Ashland’s Eureka Park, with Ashland hosting the winner of the Tri-Valley/Blue Mountain game.
Here’s a look at the playoff glances for the three divisions of the District 24 Little League Tournament. Blue Mountain has already won the 9-11-year-old crown and will compete in the Section 3 Little League Tournament that begins Monday in Pottsville.
