Big season-opening victories by Schuylkill Haven, Williams Valley, Minersville and North Schuylkill earned those teams recognition in the weekly Pennsylvania State Football Rankings compiled by PennLive.com.

The Hurricanes vaulted to No. 1 in Class AA after their 34-27 win over Blue Mountain and a loss by preseason top-ranked Seton-LaSalle.

Williams Valley, which routed rival Upper Dauphin 54-0, climbed from No. 7 to No. 5 in Class AA. District 2’s Riverside, District 4’s Troy and South Park of District 7 are 2-3-4 between Schuylkill Haven and Williams Valley.

Farrell, Bishop McCort, Southern Columbia, Steel-High and Lancaster Catholic round out the Class AA Top 10. Minersville entered the Teams to Watch after its win over Halifax.

North Schuylkill wasn’t ranked in the preseason Class 3A poll, but the Spartans’ 62-20 rout of Mount Carmel at the Silver Bowl catapulted the Spartans into the rankings at No. 6.

Northwestern Lehigh, Avonworth, Hickory, Notre Dame-Green Pond and Imani Christian are 1-5 in the Class 3A poll.
