Will it be another Blue Mountain sweep, or will a new champion emerge?

That’s the major question as the Schuylkill League boys’ and girls’ soccer playoffs get underway with quarterfinal action Saturday morning.

The Eagles have swept both league championships the past two seasons, with the Blue Mountain boys winning the last five. They enter the league postseason favored to make it three straight sweeps after both the Eagles girls and boys claimed Division I crowns with unbeaten 12-0 league marks.

Overall, Blue Mountain has nine girls’ league titles and 21 boys’ league crowns.

On the boys’ side, Pine Grove (14-4) and Lourdes (9-9) join Blue Mountain (15-3) from Division I while the Division II representatives include champion Minersville (15-3), Tri-Valley (12-6) and Shenandoah Valley (10-8).

On the girls’ side, Pottsville (9-7-1) and Pine Grove (8-7-3) join Blue Mountain (15-3) from Division I. Schuylkill Haven is the Division II champion (13-4-1) and is joined by Minersville (14-2-2) and Tri-Valley (9-10) from Division II. Tri-Valley played its way into the league playoffs with a 2-1 victory over Williams Valley in a tiebreaker game Thursday.

Schuylkill Haven’s Rotary Field will serve as the host of the Schuylkill League Soccer Playoffs for the first time. The four quarterfinals will be held Saturday, with the girls’ semifinals Monday, boys’ semifinals Tuesday and the championship doubleheader Thursday.
