HS Girls’ Basketball: Pine Grove rolls by Tri-Valley in opener

Sampson pours in 21 in Cards’ win
PINE GROVE — Hollyn Sampson outscored Tri-Valley all by herself as Pine Grove rolled to a 51-15 victory Saturday in a girls’ basketball season opener for both squads.
Sampson scored 15 of her points in the first half as the Cardinals led 35-7 at intermission.
Lainey Fidler hit a trio of 3-pointers for nine points for Pine Grove. Avery Miller scored a team-high eight points for Tri-Valley, which dropped Kaylin Ryan’s debut as head coach.

Delaney Walborn added eight points for Blue Mountain, which struggled at the foul line, shooting just 7-for-16.
Geniva Paul led all scorers with 16 points for Conrad Weiser.

TAMAQUA — Millie Black poured in a team-high 16 points but the Blue Raiders dropped a non-league game to the Huskies.
Jayla Rosario paced all scorers with a game-high 21 points for Dieruff, which outscored Tamaqua 28-20 in the second half after the teams played to a 23-23 tie at intermission. Aniya Holder added 12.

Tamaqua meet suspended
TAMAQUA — Saturday’s non-league boys’ and girls’ swim meet between Hazleton Area and Tamaqua was suspended due to an illness related incident in the pool during the meet.
The meet will be resumed at the point it left off Monday, Dec. 15, at 4:30 p.m. at Hazleton Area.
