Conti, North Schuylkill surge past Pine Grove

PINE GROVE — Mya Conti scored five of her game-high 15 points in a key fourth-quarter run to propel North Schuylkill to a 41-40 victory over Pine Grove in a Schuylkill League Division I girls’ basketball clash Tuesday night.

The Spartans trailed 30-28 entering the fourth quarter before going on a 15-7 run to take control. Conti hit three free throws in the run … a key stat when considering North Schuylkill finished the game 7-for-22 from the free-throw line.

Callee Leffler paced Pine Grove with 14 points, hitting a 3-pointer in the final seconds to account for the final margin after the Spartans had taken a four-point lead.

SCHUYLKILL HAVEN — Mckenna Runkle paced a trio of double-digit scorers with 15 points as the Hurricanes downed the Eagles in a Schuylkill League Division I game at the CACL Center.

Runkle had eight of her points in the first half as Schuylkill Haven built a 22-16 by intermission, then led 33-24 after three frames.

Kylie Siket added 11 points for Haven, while sophomore Braelynn Strenkoski recorded a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds.

TAMAQUA — Lauren Ligenza and Millie Black each notched double-doubles as the Blue Raiders rolled past the Crimson Tide in a Division I contest.

Black finished with a game-high 15 points and 10 rebounds, while Ligenza poured in 10 points and had 12 rebounds. Leah Black added to Tamaqua’s dominance on the boards with 13 rebounds.

Ligenza had eight of her points in the first half as Tamaqua built a 24-9 lead by intermission. Jo Barnhart paced Pottsville with nine points.

MINERSVILLE — Morgan Orsulak and Caroline Breslin combined to outscore Minersville by themselves as the Panthers claimed a Schuylkill League Division I win.

Orsulak finished with 23 points, 16 rebounds and four blocked shots, scoring 16 points in the second half. Breslin hit four 3-pointers and had 22 points, 13 of which came in the second half.

Panther Valley led 29-25 at halftime before outscoring the Miners 31-19 in the final two frames. Catherine Ilsley led Minersville with 10 points, while Jenna Cullen had eight.

Kylla Sandri, Karm Schroyer and Sophia Karlovich each added nine points for Lourdes, which led 39-6 at intermission. Avery Miller had 11 points for Tri-Valley.

POTTSVILLE — Addy Marek drained seven 3-pointers and scored a game-high 33 points as the Fillies cruised past the Green Wave in a Schuylkill League Division II game atop Lawton’s Hill.

Marek had 12 of her points in the first quarter, helping Marian open the game on a 23-0 run. Deanna Pugh added 11 points and Brooke Hannis-Miskar had 10 for Marian.

TOWER CITY — Mallory Miller paced a trio of double-digit scorers with 18 points as the Vikings remained unbeaten with a Schuylkill League Division II win over the Blue Devils.

Miller did most of her damage from the foul line, shooting 11-of-14 from the stripe. Ireland Kasper added 14 points and Ella Kobularik tallied 10 for Williams Valley, which outscored Shenandoah Valley 33-11 over the middle quarters.

POTTSVILLE — The Crimson Tide fell behind in the first quarter and were forced to play catch-up the rest of the way in suffering a non-league loss to the Cougars at Martz Hall.

Christian Alvarez led a trio of double-digit scorers with 17 points for Pottsville, while Ryder Bowers had 12 points and Davy Kunstek tallied 10.

Hazleton Area had a balanced attack with four players in double figures, led by YoYo Moran’s 19 points. The Cougars made 12 3-pointers, while Pottsville drained eight.
