FOUNTAIN SPRINGS — North Schuylkill’s freshmen boys are starting to make a name for themselves in Schuylkill League swimming circles.

Owen Mentzer won a pair of events and fellow freshmen Brendan Fetterolf and Nicholas Weremedic added wins as North Schuylkill downed Schuylkill Haven topped 102-51 in a Schuylkill League dual meet Thursday at the Donald Bricker Natatorium.

Mentzer took first in the 50-yard freestyle and 100 backstroke, while Fetterolf won the 200 free and Weremedic won the 500 free. Fabrizio Mangianello (100 fly) and David Luna (100 breast) also scored individual wins for the Spartans (4-2, 3-2 SL), which swept the relays.

Ethan Miller placed first in the 200 IM and 100 freestyle for Schuylkill Haven (4-4, 3-2).

Michael Strucko (50 free, 500 free) won twice for Marian (1-3, 1-2), while Reece Steibler (200 free) and Andrew Metters (100 back) added wins.

Hope Stauffer (200 free, 100 fly) and Cali Stauffer (50 free, 100 free) each won two events and swam on two winning relays for Schuylkill Haven (4-4, 2-3). Allison Scherer added a win in the 100 backstroke for the Hurricanes.
